    Default got a ticket

a few weeks ago i got a ticket on 400 for going 69 in a 55. i thought that normally i could just pay it off but i called the sandy springs court today and found out that i have to go to court. Is it usaully this way for going 14 over that i have to go to court?

last year in november i went to court in gwinnett county and got my license suspended for 6 months. since i got the ticket with 1 year of my last court appearance could it be that i have to go to court because of it and that they might take my license again?

when i foudn out that i have to go to court i got real worried. if you know anything about the court system or the sandy springs out that could help me out please let me know.

    thx in advance

You don't have to worry. A lot of jurisdictions are like that. If you are caught going a certain MPH over the limit, it is a requirement to go to court to settle up. Don't sweat it and just go on to court. Later, QD.

another reason why i am so worried is becaue the cop clocked me at 86 in 55 but gave me the ticket for 69 and said to just pay it off. if i try to fight it he will testify to the 86.

dont fight it, why would u fight it? just because ur required to go to court doesn't mean you have to fight the ticker...

just when you go to court tell them you plan to attend a defensive driving class and you've learned form the experience. they love that kind of shiiiit

Why would you fight it? The cop cut you a huge break? Go to court, pay the fine and be done with it. Later, QD.

Don't tell them you "plan to go" to DD. Go to DD before and show them the documentation. That's what they love. They hear that "I'm planning to go" crap all the time. You think they believe that? Lolol. Later, QD.

yea, and besides, once he writes the ticket then thats final...

i've never heard of a cop changing his mind in court about what the speed was... because i'm pretty sure lowering the speed for a ticket is frowned upon...

the ticket was written for 14 over? I'm a bit surprised at the court, but go to it and don't sweat it Also, slow it up some, especially with having recently gotten your license back - you don't want to lose it for a year now do you?

since i got my license back i havent been driving fast it was a bad morning being stressed, being late, and coming down a hill all came together. and since i go the ticket a couple of weeks ago ive never been doing more than 5 over and look down at my speed every couple of seconds. not only does it suck having a suspended license it also gets expensive.

i also thought by going to court it means automatically your trying to fight it.

its only 14 over which means no points. in sandy springs a 14mph over is only $150. just pay it and get it over with. dont bother with DD its a waste of 75-90 bucks. save it for when you really need to take a DD course to drop a ticket and the points along with it.

My friend took it before his court date and they threw his ticket out so he got to use the class for his insurance and I think he said it was a 15% discount....so might not be waste in the end.

He is right, if you do DD before court, you got 20% off your fine and no points, but you can only do that once every 7 years, so if its a 14 over which carries no points, you should save it for a big one.

Just go to court. They may throw it out if the cop's not there. Plead not guilty.

If he's there and you can't win, it doesn't hurt since it's only 14. Anything 14 and under will not get on your record system.

The cop doesnt have to be there.

And as far as going to court, if you are under the age of 21 some counties require you go to court, regardless of the ticket.

And if it is 14 over the speed limit, no points, pay the fine and it wont go on your record

Yea when I got pulled over in gwinnett the only reason I had to go to court was being under 21. Ask to speak to the DA about the ticket before hand as well.

No sir. The reduction in fine is strictly up to the Judge. A DD course does not automatically induce a lesser fine. Same with points. The DD course takes off points from your already present MVR, also.

And it's once every 5 years. Not 7. Later, QD.
