Default Anyone gone to court in Atlanta?

    Need some quick advice.

Im pleading not guilty at my first court date on my ticket. Im assuming they will give me my trial date 90 days out? Do I need to bring any money with me tommorrow when I go? My time to appear on the ticket is 11am? What time should I arrive?

Ill rep anyone who can answer all these questions. Ive always gone to court in smaller citys.

Um, they will have you speak to the prosecutor or whatever they are called before you speak with the judge. You only need to bring money if you are paying something. The prosecutor may make you an offer that is worth it to you, so I would bring money just in case.

Thanks for the heads up. The ticket is 500 dollars. So Im guessing just bring that amount? I dont feel comfortable carrying that much cash in my wallet in Atlanta. Do they take cards or checks?

I paid cash for mine. Call the clerk and see. They answer the phone pretty quickly most of the time.

If you're pleading not guilty, then there would be no reason to bring money. The trial date could be set farther out than 90 days. I was in court about 8 months ago in Atlanta and I saw quite a few "NOT GUILTY" pleas get scheduled near the end of the year. I would arrive at 10-10:30 to be sure you get in the courtroom on time. Later, QD.

Also just so you know, after you have your trial if it goes that far, if they do find you guilty or whatever and you have to pay a fine, if you don't have the money they will put you on probation until it's payed off....and that sucks. They make you check in once a month and it takes 2-3 hours sometimes. All they do it bring you into the office after you have waited all that time, you make another date and time for you next meeting, pay your money they give you a receipt and you leave. That takes 2 hours!!!!!

Court fees are a ***** now. Not only do you have the fine and fees, but they also take half of what your fine is and add that to your total for "roadwork" and ****. My ticket in Atlanta earlier this year was a $100 fine. They took half($50) and added it to my ticket to make it $150. Later, QD.

When you get there, the first thing to happen is you will check in with a court secretary. You will be seated and the court solicitors will call each one up individually. They will state the charges and ask how you will plead. This is all before the judge even comes into the room. You'll tell the solicitor how you plead. At that time, she'll either make you an offer(reduced fine for guilty plea or maybe drop it all together if you have a valid story). If you accept the deal, you will be able to take care of that right away and won't have to go through the court procedure. If you stick to not guilty, you'll have to wait your turn in the court. You'll then stand up and tell the judge your plea. She will set a new date and you'll be off on your way until then. Later, QD.

Yea get there a little early. Parking can be a pain. There are a few free spots on the street in front of the court house if you can sneak one of those.

I think if you plead not guilty, they make you talk to the judge that day, but i think that he gives you a court date for the trial. It's been a long time for me, but I'm pretty sure. I could be wrong though.

I would get there fairly early, like 45 minutes early or so. That way, even if parking is bad, then you will have a fair amount of time to find a place to park. If this is your arraignment (spelling?) court date then you shouldn't need to have any money with you unless you are going to say you are guilty of the offense. Even then, they will give you a time limit in which you must pay the fine.
