If you notice, there is a transition coming up after the pass. It is a natural progression to slow down for the transition. Either way, Bill admitted that he hit Dan on purpose to several people....including Dan and I....to our face....with a hand shake and a chuckle.

Oh no. He didn't even go to the judges after that. We thought he won until they announced it on stage like an hour later. We had no idea it was an issue.

They may have been talking about the race between Dan and Marty. I don't know if anyone threw a coke then (Dan didn't, I know that). Dan went to the judges after that happened. Marty's car stalled in front of Dan. They gave the win to Marty originally since DAN HIT MARTY FROM BEHIND. They reversed the call thanks to Marty admitting that his car shut off mid drift. Another driver also lost a run because he hit the other driver from behind. No questions asked.

If they would have let the crowd make decisions Dan wouldn't have even been in the finals. It would have been Sherman vs. Kenji.

The crowd was yelling, "One More Time!!" after Dan and Kenji's run. Then when they gave the win to Dan, the whole crowd in the stands across from the tower boo'd and yelled. They even cut off the announcer again w/ a, "One More Time!!" chant. The announcer just blew them off saying that they'll get to see more good races-that's all yall want.

In real drifting you don't get points for passing. Just cause he passed Kenji doesn't mean he won. In Japan they pass each other all the time when drifting-it doesn't mean your drifting is better. I guess it's judged differently.

Then real drifting is gay, the fact that there is passing is the saving grace of drifting. If it weren't for the passing then it would just be a bunch of homos doing donuts in a parking lot.

In the first run, Okubo lead, and initiated his drift almost before the big bank even started, staying high on the bank and billowing smoke the whole way through. Seigo struggled to keep up, taking a slightly lower line, but giving Okubo plenty of pressure. When they switched, both drivers took the same line which led to an awkward situation at the exit of the main bank. Okubo had more speed and was running the high line, while Seigo ran the low line, allowing Okubo to pass him mid-drift. While this move would have given Okubo the automatic win in Japan, Formula D has a very strict no-passing rule, forcing a one-more-time showdown. In the sudden death match, Okubo would lead first, with another tight run. When they switched leaders, Seigo attempted to initiate much earlier, but lost his drift midway through the bank and straightened out.

PASSING EQUALS AN AUTOMATIC WIN IN D1

if you want to come over and watch all 35 d1 videos i have we can evaluate every pass. I dont recall one time that a driver looses that passes another driver.

this is straight from the d1 rulebook.

i will get you the rules on passing as soon as i find them in the rulebook.

"These expert D1 judges evaluate speed, angle of attack and vehicle control and factors like slowing to the point of hindering the other driver, running into another car or spinning out mean an automatic loss of the run. To advance to the next round, drivers use tactics such as putting pressure on an opponent through a more aggressive drift angle, carrying a higher speed through a corner, and showing good strategy. Judges are thoroughly familiar with the capabilities of each competitor's car and if the driver is not pushing the car to the limit, they will be eliminated from the round. In spite of the high stakes and close competition, D1GP drivers are expected to exercise outstanding showmanship and a professional code of conduct, or a "warrior etiquette", that make D1GP competitions the most exciting and dramatic of all drift competitions in the world."

notice where it says "warrior etiquette" which means be HONORABLE....

notice where it says running into another car means automatic loss of the run. that is a NOPI rule too.....................

You cant dispute an opinion based sport. Thats why there are judges. I see where you guys are coming from, but you will never get anything out of this... If it were a RACE where there are finish lines etc and times. There would be no need for judges, nor opinions, therefor the winner would be obvious. I thought you guys had won, but i was proven wrong. This dispute to me is like someone arguing about who won a car show, when it is opinion based because all judges dont think equal.

First its only partially opinion based. There are rules and they should be followed.

Second its going to take things like this to make the sport better. Yes Dan got screwed, lots of people are pissed about it, hopefully that will be enough for promoters to make changes.

Passing is legal in NOPI Drift. Dan made a clean pass.
Hitting another car is automatic advantage to other car. Bill hit Dan.

Drifting is not that subjective. It's only subjective because no one makes a stand and sticks by it. Certain folks are happy with being able to pick drivers to win. Everyone from NOPI is all wishy washy about the rules and what is said in the drivers meetings. If you ask too many questions, you get the eye roll.
