#5. Walk over to the mirror and look into it. Imus is a shock jock but I believe he still had some boundaries that were definitely crossed w/ him and his partner' comments. We all have limitations in what we can do and say at work. He met his limitation and was let go for that. At my job there have actually been a couple employees let go after making jokes toward another race and the person being joked upon was not the one that called HR. The person being joked upon thought it was funny and went along his merry way. It was a bystander of the white race that felt it was wrong for them to joke on a Persian Muslim. What Imus said was not a depiction of what MSNBC wants to represent so they let him go.
Now was his comment racist-that's borderline. It will always be a good debate. What it was-totally sexist! The problem w/ this whole discussion is that we are bringing too many outside influences of this matter into the conflict. It is a very well written debate w/ little whoring but I still think there si too much bias being thrown around.

We as Americans always cry this freedom of speech bullshit. There are limitations to everything. That's why our forefathers set up the Constitution to be ratified and as broad as possible. I believe that the largest problem is the attempt to generalize a person or group of people by their race. I have said it before and I will say it again; it is wrong for anyone to be racist, sexist or make racist, sexist remarks. I could care less how many black people you hear call themselves the n-word. That means nothing about black people. How many honda guys have you seen call their cars fast and run 16.0 in the 1/4 mile. So are you gonna generalize all honda guys into that way of thinking. Better yet, Peter's car is gold so all gold Integra's with intercoolers are fast and make 800+whp. I don't know how many of you work in coporate america but you can be fired for having a calender of women if SOMEONE finds it offensive and files sexual harassment. That means, anyone can be fired for offendng someone. Moral of the story; watch what you say and do. But CNN isn't reporting on that therefore it isn't news :rolleyes:.

Let's keep it real. What he said was stupid, but it wasn't racist and it wasn't enough to lose his job over. The only reason he lost his job was that the two race pimps beat on their drums loud enough to make a lot of the advertisers worry. If they don't do something, they will be perceived as racist. So from a business point of view, it would be stupid NOT to threaten to pull your ads. It's free advertising and a feather in your cap even if it didn't upset you all that much.
Bottomline is that he got fired over a double standard. If he was Black, he would still have a job today. Since he's an old white guy, he gets to lose his job and forever be linked as a racist. How's that fair? It's not. It's a double standard. Look at Charles Barkley, Spike Lee, Kanye West, and the rest of the Black entertainment industry. They constantly either subtly or very directly say derrogatory things about other races, yet noone has ever boycotted them or made a huge media frenzy enough for one of them to lose a job over. They say and do things 100x's worse than just uttering "nappy ho's", yet they grace the front of magazines, sell millions of records, and are filthy rich. Why the double standard?

My point is not whether it was raciest or sexist because I'm biased and I don't run those corporations. But I guarantee you that there are very strong guidelines in his contract or the employee handbook that limit his freedom of speech. I know my employee handbook limits alot more than speech. Shit at my last job I didn't have an employee handbook but there was a lot more that was limited-not just speech and opinion. Most people know their boundaries when at work. I guarantee you he knew what he could and couldn't say. Whether it was a mistake or planned-it cost him his job. There are plenty of people in this world that lost their career because of a mistake or bad comment that wasn't excused. His was just brought out in the open.
Like Howard Stern he'll definitely get picked up by another station w/ looser values and restrictions and probably get a longer contract w/ more money.
