Ok, so not everyone who smokes is lazy and worthless. I smoke literally every day yet I still manage to work and make a living for myself (I live on my own), go to school and maintain good grades, and handle life accordingly. Honestly, I smoke before I run errands (pay bills, grocery shop, hanging out, etc.). I have been a smoker for 8 almost 9 years now. I've never been the one to get high and sit on my ass all day starring off into outer space. Never was my forte. Getting high is no different from getting drunk except the after effects like nausea, double vision, vomiting, slurring of the words, bad judgments, etc.
As far as legalizing it, I don't know if it will ever happen. Maybe one day, but who knows. I know I am not going to waste my time worrying about it

I personally believe in individual responsibility and states rights so I think it should be legalized (if you choose to do it then you have to live with the consequences). If it must be illegal then it should be done at the state level, not by the federal government.

I don't know why testing is an issue for some people. It's not like cars and booze weren't around before breathalizers.

^^^ Some people would be surprised at who and how many people smoke weed. Maybe they would loosen up a little if they knew, but then again I doubt it lol

i can vouch for this lady. she handles hers, and rolls a mean blunt!

i dont smoke at the moment, but I dont see the harm in burning it down. The ONLY thing i ahve against weed is that if u r caught with it, u go to jail and it will keep u from getting a job if u dont know how to pass a test.

    other than that, toke on.

You already know the answer to that. They are going to argue why weed is so bad and why it's nothing like alcohol and tobacco.

If anything people remember ignorance is bliss!!!!! It doesn't matter what we say or think or hell even prove, some people will never change. Oh well

It won't be legal, I find it unfortunate because the government could tax it a little and make some money off of it. I smoke but I don't turn into a lazy bum. It helps me focus and makes me even more productive.

the reason that marijuana isn't legal is because if they did regulate it and they did tax it they still would not make as much as they do off people getting caught with and paying fines not to mention the seizure of their assets

    consider this
escalade with a sticker saying "this vehicle was paid for by your local drug dealer" and not "this vehicle was paid for by your cigarette taxes"

just what i think about the situation
so stop getting caught and it may be legalized

Seized assets are usually auctioned off and they don't make too much off of them when all is said and done. The DARE vehicles with the "paid for by your local rock slanger" stickers and such aren't really used for police work from what I gather.

And the profits of fines etc are really nothing because of all of the expense of keeping so many folks in incarceration. Not to mention that the prisons aren't run by the state anymore, now they're being privatized.

There should be no reason for MJ to be illegal. The "harm" that is brought is brought upon is no worst than cigs and/or alcohol. (Ask and you shall be enlighten)
The only reason MJ is even illegal is the fact that it is not profitable to the goverment.(Ask and you shall be enlighten)

Profits from fines are no where close to what they would be if it was taxed. If one out of every 1000 people who use weed get caught paid $1000 fine would be significantly less than those same 1000 people that have to pay $1 tax on whatever they by, EVERY time they buy it. On top of that, they dont have to pay DEAs to come sniff it out and they wouldnt have to pay state or anyone to house people serving time for possesion

You phone is now bugged and your movements being watched. Now when your smoking and get paranoid there is good reason. On another note from a Medical stand point I think it would be one of the best things for them to do.

omg this thread. i smoke everyday, i try to be smart about it tho, i dont usually find myself wrapping myself up into a cocoon in front of my computer... anti-drug commercial, which pisses me off cause some ppl do use daily and carry out daily tasks. i read an article in wall street journal saying the anti-drug commercials actually increased the use of drugs. MJ is considered a gateway drug. i have never touched any other drug.

    im out

I know plenty of people who smoke every day but haven't touched anything harder. And I think the "OMG ITS A GATEWAY DRUG" statistics rely on people trying other drugs. Just because people try stuff dosen't automatically mean they are going to use it habitually. A more appropriate poll would be how many mj users also use hard drugs habitually. This poll would show that the majority of MJ users stick with MJ even thought they may be more likely to try the harder stuff.

what some may not realize is that it IS LEGAL to possess and grow but not sell. In some states, mind you! there is exceptions for medical in 13 different states. i know in cali and NY it is not a criminal offense. rather you get a ticket for like 20-25 bucks (NYC). they may or may not take your shit though!

and studies have shown that it can be worse than smoking a FILTERED cigarette. but alcohol. i support the ban on it. have had too many friends and family die from it! personally i dont drink because of the NON desire and i have IBS and stomach problems so i dont drink often maybe one or two a year and its a drink, not a beer.

Those busts are few and far between. The seized assets are auctioned off, for pennies on the dollar. The fines are not really that much.

    From Georgia NORML:

Any possession, manufacture or distribution of greater than 50 pounds is considered trafficking and all trafficking offenses carry mandatory minimum sentences. For amounts greater than 50 pound but less that 2,000 pounds, the sentence is a minimum of 5 years in prison and a $100,000 fine. For 2,000 pounds to less than 10,000 pounds, the minimum sentence is 7 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. For 10,000 pounds or more, the minimum sentence is 15 years and a $1,000,000 fine.

So a guy gets busted with a ton (2,000lbs) of pot.

His seized assets (house and car) net maybe $150,000 at auction (thats being optimistic)
    He pays a $250,000 fine
    He serves 7 years
5 of his associates get rounded up for on lesser shit like posession/selling smaller amounts and get 3 years each and fines of $5000 but no seized assets.

So they have milked $415,000 out of our dope dealer and his associates, after they were tried and convicted, of course.

A courtroom for a felony trial costs $5000 per day when everybody involved (judge, prosecutor, DA, public defender, etc) gets paid. So our big kingpin gets a 3 day trial. His buddies are convicted in 3 separate trials, each is open and shut in one day.

    $5,000 x 3 = $15,000
    $5,000 x 3 = $15,000

Total court costs = $30,000 (this seems like a VERY conservative estimate)

Lets say it costs $40 per day to house an inmate.
    $40 x 365 = $14,600 x 7 years = $102,200

Not too bad, our dope dealer has paid his own way through prison. But how much is left to cover his buddies?

    $14,600 x 3 years = $43,800 x 5 inmates = $219,000

    $102,200 + $219,000 = $321,200 (total cost of housing the 6 prisoners)

    $415,000 (money from bust) - $321,200 (costs of incarceration) - $30,000 (court costs) = $63,800

So the state has made $63,800 so far.

Thats barely enough to pay for the salary and benefits of one police officer. And it usually takes more than one police officer to make these sorts of busts. So needless to say, the state is losing money hand over fist on is war on drugs

The street value of a ton of middies is about 3 million dollars.
    3,000,000 x .07 (GA sales tax) = $210,000

So even without an excise tax, even with just the 7% sales tax, GA could be making a shitload more money on legal pot. Slap another 7% or 10% excise tax on top of that....

And the 3 million that would be on the black market instead circulates into the economy and becomes part of GDP.

    nice math

all im saying is if it were to be legalized and regulated they would have to buy land, hire "farmers", start a whole new R&D operation. and the salaries are budgeted with tax dollars so the 62,000=BONUS I just honestly feel that its about the money and not the substance itself because alcohol which you can detect levels of is legal and the local government in my county alone makes a SHITLOAD off D.U.I.'s

I'm not just some stoner who thinks the gov. is out to get me
But if it were as cut and dry as legalize, grow, tax, repeat it should have been done a long time ago

God i wish Obama would show some balls and do something extreme like legalize it and just see where it goes

There are better ways to spend my tax money than busting pot operations. If pot were legal and taxed accordingly, the state wouldn't need to tax its citizens as much.
