    Default NO JOBS NO RECOVERY!

    Published: December 14, 2008

NAFTA and the sweetheart deal given to China and India must be canceled, otherwise the American worker and the financial stability of this nation will never recover. China's population is about six times the population of the United States, as is India's. The wage scale in both China and India is almost that of a shoe shine boy. The different wage scales in past history has required tariffs so as not to destroy the economies of all nations. Tariff is not a dirty word. It has been used to correct disparities in wages for thousands of years.

Outsourcing to the point of where we produce nothing is outrageous. America must re-build its industrial base, heavy industry and all, from the ground up. To agree to re-build our infrastructure and not our industrial base is sheer folly. This re-building must be done only with American products, not foreign.

Our industrial base allowed America to win World War II. We have no industrial base today. The American worker must demand this new administration cancel the trade deal with China and India and cancel NAFTA as its first order of business.

Bailouts cannot solve what our leadership has done to the American worker, starting with the ending of World War II. Lopsided trade deals appeased the greed of the few and have turned the financial world upside down. This problem is not only America's problem but is worldwide. The European Common Market and the creation of global industries, pitting workers worldwide against each other, have opened up a Pandora's Box. It can and is creating social unrest worldwide.

Our ports nationwide are busting at the seams with the products from all over the world, entering our nation duty free from nations whose wage scale is much lower than ours. This is why you have no job or if you are lucky enough to have a job, it does not keep you in your home.

uh newsflash, our economy has gone to shit. We cannot continuously take and never sell anything back. the strongest countries, generally speaking, are those who import the least.... or at least import less than they export. we consume. we do not produce. its going to catch up to us eventually as it has already begun to.

The problem is YOUR WRONG. Like it or not that's what we have and it's here to stay.

With the advancements in technology we are able to do more business in more places than ever before. There are already plans to build a Trans-Atlantic Train from NYC to London that will go from point A to point B in an hour. Think about that. That's about the average commute to work for most people. NYC and London will be come the Absolute center of the world when it comes to global commerce.

This country has and always will operate on a global economic platform. Whether you choose to realize it or not the whole world has been involved in global economics since before the industrial revolution.

I could go on and on with examples of this but the point is this, A global economy can and does work and simply shutting ourselves off from the rest of the world will in all actuality only make our current cituation worse.

The only comment I will make on global trade is that the US MUST start protecting American business by copying a countries trade laws and applying them to our own. If a US business exports a toy to China and it is taxed at a 100% rate, then anything imported from China into this country should be taxed at a 100% rate. This would serve to open up foreign markets to US goods, or it would increase the domestic market for that partcular good. Either way, it is a win for the US.

Vactrains are science-fiction. They have never been built. There are no plans to build one, only talk. Funding will never happen. Hell, even the Concorde didn't work financially, and it was a lot cheaper. Think about that.
Quit living in a sci-fi fantasy world, and come back to reality.

If you think that it will NEVER get built then you really need to re-evaluate the understanding of technology advancements.

A point to bring up. The US still produces goods, just not the direct and tangible things this article is referring to. We produce technology. Unfortunately that particular good requires thinking and education on the bleeding edge which aleinates a large amount of the population from the work force. Hey we cant all be intelligent.

HAY! I have a perfect example of what I mentioned. My job lol. I produce converted data, in layman's terms. Customers pay us to take their collected data and transform it into something more desireable for their low level employees to interface with. See thats a product. If I were to go into more detail it would be easily seen as a global player. I had job offers in the U.A.E. Saudi Arabia and other international locations. Just food for thought.

the reason the american worker is dying in the manufacturing industries is b/c of unions, healthcare, salary cost, and poor work ethics. for this country to survive the future we need to retrain/reeducate the unemployed as they need to reevaluate their futures. working at the local mill till you die isn't ideal anymore - we need stronger minds to work us into the future.

Agree 100%. Our education system is turning out people who are barely qualified to work at McDonalds. And thats speaking of the people who actually finish High School and not the 30-40% who bail before they graduate.
