So don't say that WE can't say American. There are color barriers in this world. If it was so simple, then we all would be Americans, period. No white, black, red, green.....
How many black people can say they are African descent? How many people have parents from Africa and were born from true African natives or lived there then moved here? My guess, 0.01% So how can anyone say they are AFRICAN AMERICAN? If you were born here, you are AMERICAN!! regardless of color, why do people have to try and set thier race apart from anyone else and be so different to throw a country into the American mix that they have never been to nor have family directly from?

If you want to be technical, EVERYONE on the planet then is African because humans are from Africa and migrated then around the world, so can I then say I am AFRICAN AMERICAN?

Its not setting their race apart!

I said that there IS a difference. Our country as a whole tosses the terms around, from job apps to surveys, media and politics.

There are AFRICANS coming to AMERICA gaining CITIZENSHIP very often. Does that not coin them AFRICAN-AMERICAN? If I am wrong correct me.

I agree that if you are born here, you are AMERICAN with a different HERITAGE.

    There are asian americans, lol........

If you ask an Asian what their ethnicity is, then they'll tell you if they're Chinese, Japanese, Korean, ect...

However, most Asian people will refer to themselves as simply "American" when it comes to this subject.
