What kind of problems can I run into if the block number was filed off even though I know the block is legitimately owned and wasn't stolen
Thanks for the help

Sounds like someone was trying to hide what block it was but it still doesn't look good on your part if you plan on showing your motor off to everyone. It should also have another vin plate somewhere. If not, thats not legit.
"Damn, Its Tyler"RaceReadyDevelopments
We have the plate. Just shaved it so no one would know when we showed it off and they would ask what's under the hood
never looks good. .
Would you buy a hand gun with the numbers filed off?

Doesn't mean its stolen. I took the plates and crap off my tranny because im a neat freak and i like a clean look. does not mean i stole it.
this is not anywhere near the same situation as a hand gun, come on man get real. i know of a few people who shaved their blocks on their b20vtec's back in the day, to appear like they have just a stock b16. which it never mattered anyway, they are all slow stock....
Its one in the same, Both are trying to conceal something that is not on the leval. I know for a fact just in gwinnett cops are checking numbers under hoods....

My first car was a civic with a gsr swap in it. It also had the block code ground off and everyone who saw it assumed the same (that it was stolen). At the end of the day you may know that it's legit, but not everyone else knows that.
try explaining it to the cops when they check - see what they say about it...
looks stolen is the main thing. you may know it's not, but they will make you prove it isn't... and that may take time and money...
i'd find a way to "replicate" the plate jsut so you don't get hastled...
You're right - I have no idea what I'm talking about...
No cop will pull you over and say anything about your motor. I would just tell them to prove it IS stolen. Just because somebody decides they want to do something to their own property doesn't mean they stole it. You won't have to prove its not stolen, they will have to prove it is....
But the real key to the shaved block thing is, the code on the bottom of the block. If they removed that, chances are it is stolen, lol........
you should never tell the law to prove its stolen, because they will prove its stolen and if not that they will find something to charge you with..
"Hey officer, is my already illegal to own motor stolen?"
Maybe this is a gwinett only thread..... ima stay out of it....

if its a us motor, its a felony offense to tamper with a vin tag. plain and simple. stolen or not, you can be arrested for it
i believe it is a felony to mess with anything that has to do with a vin.
Question................. and be honest.
Post up and tell if YOU have ever been pulled over, and the cop asked you to pop your HOOD. I assure you, there isn't 5 people on this site that its happened to. Just sounds stupid.....
and how would a person check to see if the motor stolen or not with the block code.
I haven't been asked to pop my hood, but i've been asked "what's under the hood". Got a ticket at 125 in a 70, so he was curious....
haha sweet i would say the cop asked me the same thing when i got my ticket but he didnt really do much talking at all except please step out of the vehicle and in cuffs and in his car. haha i was racing on the interstate gsp got me 125 in a 65. lol i went to jail for the night and go my car impounded
h22?
Last I checked, we are not a CARB regulated state so they can't write you a ticket for anything under your hood with maybe the exception of your cat missing or something of the sort.
As for the topic at hand, what are you worried about if you bought it from someone and that can be verified and you aren't trying to sell it?
Doesn't really matter.
Umm..Unless someone is looking specifically for stolen stuff and want to frame you..
Where can we go and check the engine code to find out if it is stolen or not ??
why is it the NA honda guys always so obsessed with hiding their engine??? are people really kicking down your garage door trying to find out whats under the hood of your civics? i know Paul Walker did it in fast N furious, but is that a problem you're really dealing with on a day to day basis?
I not tryna hide anythin ... i jus dnt want to buy anythin stolen bcuz i live in gwinnett. Cops pop hoods here. Me personally i dnt give a flyin flip dat ppl knw wat i have, i jus dnt want to have anythin stolen on my car.
Technically, if you're pulled over, you don't HAVE to consent to a search, but getting cocky with a cop who already thinks you've got something going one is just plain dumb.
Imagine if you're at a show with the hood up and a cop notices it. That doesn't look good.
Not trying to be a dick, but you gotta look at it from their eyes. At least keep the plate on hand so if they ask, you can show them without a doubt that you're not up to anything shady.

Just get a car that isn't a Honda/Acura and save yourself from all this brain damage.

you guys gotta learn to just not pop your hood if you dont want anybody to see whats under it. lol that solves the filing shit off issue.
If nothing else it looks questionable and just plain tacky.
first off, do whatever the hell you want to do with your car. who gives a shit what other people think?
second, you are innocent until proven guilty. If the cops feel that you stole the engine then they have the burden of proving that you did so.
