I'm posting this for my brother, who lives down your way (I'm up in NC).
He's got an '89 CRX with a built GSR swap that's been having issues. It was blowing up ignitors at high (around 8000) RPM, so he tried a MSD distributor with external coil/ignitor, but that only lasted a few days. He tried a factory Acura distributor and used a M&W Pro 10 as an external ignitor, but that only lasted a few days before it died. He's tried three different ECU's (Crome chipped Honda ECU, Hondata S300 chipped Honda ECU, and AEM EMS), all of which yielded the same results, they last a few days and die. He had a new Rywire engine harness made and installed in the car, and the car again ran for a few days before the ignition started breaking up. At one point the rear-mounted battery was blowing 125-amp fuses, even though we couldn't find a short in the system, so we moved the battery back up front and the ignition death syndrome is still there, although it stopped popping fuses. Recently it started killing every ECU that we plug into it, they run for a while and then stop working completely.
We're looking for someone who's good with wiring harnesses to go through the car and sort it out. I'd do it, but I'm too far away, and my brother doesn't have the time or the wiring experience to tackle it. It's been to two local shops (who shall remain nameless) and neither of them could get it working consistently, although both tried.
The main thing that we want is someone who does quality work and pays attention to details. There's been enough half-assed work done to this car by previous owners for any six cars, and he's happy to pay for quality work and attention to detail.
Please let me know if there's anyone in the Atlanta area that might be good for this type of work, or if you have any suggestions for fixing it.
Thanks,
Roger
