i have a vr6 in a mk2 87' gti (see pic below)... and that motor isn't as big as you think, its probably one of the smallest v6's on the planet and if the guy has chip as you stated then he is probably running roughly 170+whp/160+lbs

the vr6 just has way more potential then 1.8t if you have the $$$... i know alot of people have been all about boost but look what you can do NA \/

if your going to do just bolt ons do a 1.8t if you plan on saving some coin and doing a BT get the vr6. both motors cost the same to BT but the vr6 is way better platform.

thats not my dub but just what you can do w/ NA vr6... vr6/1.8t are very capable of 13 sec 1/4 w/ very little mods. if the guy talking shit was in a 1.8t i would say he would wax you; but since its a vr6 and your setup w/ the numbers you posted, it will come down to driver + traction.

I would seriously take the 1.8T. If you either plan to leave it completely stock other than bolt ons like an exhaust, just go for the VR6 because it makes a beautiful sound with a good exhaust. It takes a LOT of money to get more power out of a VR6.

That was my reasoning too when I bought my 1.8T GTI even though I wrecked it (bad on my part) I always wished it was a VR cause with the amount of money Ive had to spend on cars in the past year/year 1/2 I coulda gone turbo VR which has way more power potential than the 1.8T. Im actually going back and putting one in my jetta ASAP to make up for my errors before.

The 1.8T you can make quick for cheap. Yea the VR to get big power is more money but you gotta pay to play. Plus to get a 1.8T to VRT standards it would take more money than it woulda to go with the VRT.

I love my R32. I didnt think i would b/c i was coming for a 300+WHP WRX and well my R isnt 300whp. But the power it has is so smooth, and the other things make up for the power loss. Ive got a CIA and tune and ive run 13.4's in it. With real mods, im sure the car would open up a good bit.

Well, I haven't sold it yet... I have found a good 20th AE, but I don't know if it would be boring to get another GTI. I like mine now, but am wondering if I will regret this and still want a faster car.

with a K04 tuned right w/ the upgrades injectors, n75, fmic, maf, etc... you will easily be 250whp/300lbs... i was reading recently about some k04 guys in the 260-270whp range. everything is going to be on your tune.

Here are the Power Lap Times for Top Gear \/ notice the R32 over the S4, 350z, Rx8, M3 ... granted track conditions mean alot when they do this but i have no doubt that it can hang w/ many of the cars in the bottom half on a road course

The only electrical issue i have had so far is a blown fuse (fuel pump fues) and the car wouldnt start. Other than that, ive had no issues what so ever. I think it's all in the upkeep. If you keep your car like a POS, it will end up like one.

That's not always true. If it were true, then they wouldn't send out recalls to fix the brake light switch, the fallen windows, the airbags popping out randomnly, the left headlight going out by itself, the heated seats catching fire
