    Exclamation Civic Not Starting Up!!

    So,
Here's the dilly. I got a 1993 Honda Civic DX 2 dr. It died out on me about a week or 2 ago while at a red light. Just shut off. Bastard. Anyways, it cranks and rotates but wont start up or/fire up. Iniitally I thought it was the main relay cause they always f&ck up on civics in hot weather. But it is not the main relay. I tested it. Also i smel gas, so i am sure the civic is gettin gas to the motor. But we all know it requires 3 things. Spark, Air and Fuel. I also checked to see if the timing belt was turning , and it was. So timing belt is not hte problem. Battery is good. All fuses check out okay. i dont think it would be the ECU because i know ppl that could start up the car without the ecu. so im 60% sure the ecu is not the problem. Any ideas, suggestions. or what? Let me know. Thanks!!!

Youknow people who can start cars without ECU's??

anyway, my first suggestion would have been fuel relay cause ive had two go bad on me and thats honestly what it sounds like more than anythign else, what about your distributor??

a friend of mines did it once....dont know how but he pulled it off...but also in the haynes book it has troubleshooting in the front part of the book and the ECU is not one of the problems listed in it. so.

yeah i know a lot too but this one has me puzzled. and i already took off the dizzy cap yesterday to see if the motor timing belt and if the rotor was turning and it was turning when i tried to crank it up..so its not that...what else could it be?

DID U CHECK FOR SPARK? TAKE A PLUG WIRE OFF A PLUG AND HOLD THE END CLOSE TO SOMETHING METAL. SPIN MTR OVER AND SEE IF SPARK COMES OUT OF END OF WIRE.

I WOULD RECCOMEND U TAKE IT TO MAINSTREAM BC (NOT TRYING TO BE FUNNY) IF U DIDNT KNOW WHAT A ROTOR BUTTON IS AND WHAT IT MEANS IF A CAR JUMPS TIME I WOULD BE MESSING WITH IT. ILL HELP U IF U REALLY WANT TO DIY THOUGH.

PUT EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER AND SPIN THE CAR OVER. IF UR TACH NEEDLE DOES NOT BOUNCE A LITTLE BIT WHILE THE ENGINE IS SPINNING I WOULD GET A NEW DIZZY. THE IGNITOR IS IN THE DIZZY WHICH GOSE BAD BUT I THINK IT DAMN NEAR THE PRICE OF A NEW DIZZY JUST FOR THE IGNITOR.

i have a 92-95 civic program on the computer that tells you LITERALLY everything...over 1,000 pages of it..i read it with adobe acrobat. its nice..and it says to measure the resistance between the 2 wires in there...and then to measure resitenance between wire A and secondary wriring...somewhere along there..i'll have to read it later before i test it.

its def. not the timing...cause the car is not gettin spark...it wont fire..i tested a yellow/green wire and tested it at the other side of the engine bay to another connector and there was an open, so i corrected it and now its good, but it still wont start. ????? and when i tried cranking it up, the thermometer was bouncing up and down. sooooo i dunno what to do at this point..im thinking new distributor...

i was referring to what BTEC was saying about removing the distributor, and timing maybe jumping... but check out these troubleshooters, they have quite a few related problems... http://www.hondacivicforum.com/m_100074/tm.htm

    hope it helps

they are all mostly pointing to coil and ingniter! but ehh i just want to make sure its nothing wrong with the wiring cause i am not ready to fork out that much for a new coil and igniter!!

i would get someone who know what theyre doin to check it out. and if the wiring wasnt the problem, id definately look into an ignitor and coil... friend of mine has a brand new, barely used dizzy for $100 even for ur year. but he had a d16z6 i believe, not sure whats in the DX's.
