i wouldn't suggest doing it unless you have to such as if you have a gear out or if your clutch is messed up... if this was a common practice they would just sell you 4 spd
YES, downshifting and skipping a gear is bad
YES, upshifting and skipping a gear is bad
YES, BOTH upshifting and downshifting and skipping a gear is bad
NO, it does not harm your transmission in any way as long as you don't jam it into gear
