Ok I banged the rev limiter twice for arguments sake, a picture is worth a thousand words

    Purple line is throttle %
    Blue is RPM
    Green is air fuel ratio
light blue (user imput) is MAF voltage
(EGT and Manifold pressure (boost) logging not being used YET)
The color coded values at the right are derived where the vertical white line intersects the logged values

Notice the small dip in the A/F just to the right of the white line, that's where the ECU takes over and starts to cut fuel, that dip starts on both graphs a 6227. During the rev cut the RPMs do go higher than 6250, but it's not really going to contribute to acceleration. If you come off throttle while in gear the A/F will go to 21 (that's what % is in the atmosphere), so if your lifting to shift anyway and the fuel's going to be cut either because of the lift or the rev limit, these are going to overlap, and the ECU will be satisified, and inertia will carry the revs past the limit w/o really hitting the fuel cut, unless you stay in the throttle. A rev limiter won't do a thing if you miss shift into a lower gear.
