just touch a hot wire to the lead coming off the solenoid and see if it clicks.

NO WAY.. lol.. im the one who put his new motor in after he broke the timming belt off the org. one, then the new motor i put in started to knock super bad, bc he didnt knoe how to break it in right. then after he got ANOTHER motor to replace the knockin one, i was supposed to assemble it and swap it back in. but long story short he didnt have all the shit for me to put the new motor back in so i walked away in the middle of doin it then he got someone else to do it. ..

Reason i ask is because jonathan(vtecace23) had this problem and he checked EVERYTHING and even replaced the oil pump. Come to find out the machine shop left out one of the rocker pins and it wouldnt let vtec lock in. Just a thought IF the head has been off or disassembled.

i was going to tell you to check pressure at the orifice in the head and to also make sure the correct pickup is in and not too close to the pan (cavitation will occur and prevent pressure=no vtec). no pickup is even worse. i don't think there is enough oil level in the pan to feed oil w/o the pickup if i'm not mistaken.

i know this is kinda ghetto, but you said you jumped the solenoid. and it worked. so take the hot wire and run it to the horn and test it then. if it worked when you jumped it will work when you hit the horn. then you will be able to determine if vtec even engaged properly. just a suggestion. also if you got a manual oil pressure gauge run it to the head to see if the head is getting enought pressure to eliminate the oil pump and oil pickup.
