My bro's 96 civic front end shakes pretty badly at 50mph until about 60mph. Im not sure where to start to locate the problem. I was thinking the springs/shocks are bad due to being old and cheap. Anyone have ideas? REPS for help![]()

axles
wheel bearings
tie rod ends
tires loose
tires out of balance
suspension has loose bolts
also. does this rule out the fact that it could be the springs and or shocks?
if wheel balance is good, i vote tie rods. i just fixed a car recently and it did the same thing, turned out it was a bad drivers tie rod.
put the front wheels in the back and the back int he front see if that helps
Yeah poorly balanced tires are the most common cause of this, so once you rule them out you can start checking suspension components like the tie rods
my vote is with a balance, than tie rods...
i doubt the tie rods, it being a 96 they should still be decent. And if it was the tie rods/tires.. it would shake all the time.
And most bad wheel balancing shows up at around 45-60mph
Do you still have stock rims or aftermarket? My friend had a BMW that had aftermarket rims and he had that thing checked up and down by both the dealer and several shops. He couldn't get rid of the vibrations until he put different rims on the car.
once again a bent wheel/bad tire will wobble and shake all the time not just at 60mph!
fix that thang yet?
thats just vtec kickin yo........
I check sluts off my list like a maintnence man
I drive a low is3 just so it gives me a reason to drive super slow on these rough ga roads.
had the same problem turns out the tire was gone!, hope u get it fixed! its danny by the way
+1 for the tire balance. I had the same problem.
Well aware of what a damaged wheel will do. My car has a dent in the rim thanks to the lovely potholes on I-75 in Kentucky. His rims are brand new (and quite nice) ... it's just for whatever reason he can't seem to get rid of the shakes (which only kicked in at highway speeds).
another question....
are the tires the same?
normally if they are different type. they'll pull differently causing the car to shake at higher speed (50-80) than normally stop are 100+
i have the same problem at around 60 - 70 mph - tires go out of balance after a while. Balanced them last week and they ride super smooth now...my vote tires let us know...
