    Default Fuel line help..

Ok so my check engine light on the mustang continually comes on throwing a code "small emissions leak" which is typically the gas cap.. After I bought a new one and reset the ecu.. The light came back on with another light that says "check gas cap".. Ive heard that you can use a machine called a "smoker" to check for small pin holes in the fuel lines.. just wanted to see if anyone else has had issues with this?

Smoke test is just that. Runs "smoke" through out the system and you look for the leak.

Well I found the problem.. I was smelling gas today and somehow where the gas line goes from the gas cap down into the car, there is a tear or something in the line because it is leaking out pretty good..

Ok so apparently the 99-2003 mustangs all have this issue and according to ford it should have been recalled but since no one died.. they didnt. The filler neck is known to rust (I bought this car from MD) and the grommit that holds in the filler neck to the tank tears. Well mine is tore completely in half and my filler neck has some surface rust.. 3 hours of labor for them to drop the damn tank and replace the grommit.. I went through a 1/4 of a tank in 20 miles today.. does that tell you something?? Lmao

im looking at the times now 1.8 to R&R tank then add .3 for the filler neck. which is half way out once the tank is out anyways.

edit: if they are going to flush the tank and replace the vent valve while there at it 3 hours is justified.

if its anything like my car was (srt4) which i know all cars are different but i dont see them having to drop the tank to do it. with that said i've never worked on a mustang. that does seem a little high to just drop the tank and replace the line.

Yeah, I got 2.0 with my program. lol

They wouldn't need to flush the tank though unless they are just going to empty it to make it lighter.
