Nissan motors were at their pinnacle at the end of the 80's/beginning of the 90's.  If the RB block was unsuccessful, do you REALLY think they would've put it into their flagship performance car?  Sure, they RB20 wasn't in the GT-R, but it damn sure paved the way for the RB26 that came later and owned the All-Japan Touring Circuit.
