as far as i know of you could keep the stock ones. but why not just upgrade the gears too?
yeah it would be best to do the gears too
stock ones, also depending which cams you will need to replace to stronger valve springs an retainers also
BTW I have seen cars getting tuned an with over 400HP and the cam gears slipped causing bent valves!
I hate adjustable cam gears after seeing that shitt happen and I don't trust them
yep, which is exactly why Skunk2 switched to a 6 bolt pattern for theirs. The cam gear won't slip if it's torqued down correctly and in sequence.Originally Posted by Tech5

lol... I'm sure as the all knowing Tech5million jeenyuz, you understand that lots of power can be unlocked by advancing and retarding cam timing.Originally Posted by Tech5

Thats if you buy those my friend!
I am not here to have a 500 HP car nor most of these NOOBS trying to ask questions most of them are installing 200ish $$ cam gears on a BONE stock NA car and is a WASTE of money!!!!
there are only a few people on here that really needs them ....Most people I have seen lately dont need to spend $200.00 + on cam gears an think they will gain 35hp!
Its a waste and I will say it again , an again unless they are packing something then I can see a maybe!
But for what these guys need them for (looks) its a waste!
ah yes my friend. In that case you are correct.Originally Posted by Tech5

lolol
if you get aftermarket cams you should get adjustable cam gears...just get good ones that have plenty of bolts. like was stated before there is extra power and improved powerband by degreeing in the cams and this is usually done w/ the adjustable cam gears.
if you have extremely high compression and or oversized valves and are not sure of the clearances then keeping them at 0,0 would be suggested. however, if you want to get the real benefits of aftermarket cams then get adjustable gears and have them degreed in.
example of why is on a lot of vtec cars w/ aftermarket cams the vtec point has to be so high w/ the cams at 0,0 or else the car loses power w/ a lower vtec crossover. by degreeing them in you are able to bring vtec in lower and not have a power loss and make more power throughout the powerband.
the real question is...do you really need aftermarket cams?
