Default Prelude Wont go in Reverse Sometime?

like hour ago my car wouldn't go in reverse or 5th gear while the car was on or off. but after my friends helped me push the car back, the car shifts into 5th all of a sudden. and just now i just checked to see if my car would go in reverse and it does. what could have been the problem? maybe something wrong with my shift linkage?
