    Default Painting Carbon Fiber Hood..

So I've always consider getting a cf hood but I dont wanna be like one of those carbon fiber freaks that replaces all of their body panel with cf and leave them unpainted for the "panda' look.

I've seen a hood painted along the line of the body like this:

OR completely painted over into a fade like this:

My question is: How hard is it to put a coat of translucent paint over the carbon fiber? I want the hood to blend in with the rest of the car and not be too noticeable but then again... I want to still see the weaves when you get up close. Would it be a special paint or just a single EVEN coat of paint? Would the painting process be the same? About how much would it run me? Painters (i.e. Bucky) please chime in?

ok i would think to use a candy paint becuase it is so thin. in my few paint projects i have found candy paint to be the wrost to paint becuase it takes like a million layers too get the color right.

But this way you can still see the carbon fiber under it trust me i tried too paint a candy green over a grey primer not the best idea to try lol. but my best guess is a candy color

    +my two centz

The car is a tropical blue mr2. I want the whole hood painted since the grey CF stands out TOO much for that blue of a car.

i say running a 2 tone paint scheme would be nice...depending on what the hood looks like have it paint to certain body lines on it. and leave parts unpainted to show the carbonfibergoodness.
your choice though really, you're the one paying for it so its really up to you on how YOU want it. and the cost should be under 300 just depending on how you want it to look.

    ricer... lol

i would paint the whole thing, but its your car.

my car is CF all over, but i painted it and i know its CF coz its for weight saving and wider stance option.

raw CF lay out is sooo 2001.

    haha..

painting or fading is the same as regular painting.. i did the whole tinted color CF about 5 years ago and its the same procedure except you lay an even color coat then clear it.

or just sand and paint it.

    thats pretty much it.

    good luck.

    It's basically this blue...

if it were the darker nautical blue, I think the two tone wouldnt be too bad but i think the cf would clash too much with this one..
Which would blend better, the tint or the coat of candy? Cost wise for both?

    +Reps for everyone's inputs

Get a dry carbon hood that still has the fabrics texture, if you've ever seen a Ferrari F40 in real life you'll notice the carbon fiber weave under the bright red paint...
