    Default for halfwit

you can get a SV650S with the full fairing. i think they look awesome with the full fairing. but the whole half fairing has its advantage, when changing oil, you dont have to take the bottom fairing off which sometime can be the biggest pain in the ass. but i would still consider getting an SV, if you buy a used one they range anywhere from 3700 to 4900 dollars for the 03+ SV650S. but another choice to look at for a first bike is the ninja 650R. its also a V-twin. not as much grunt as the SV but i love kawis and the ninja has a color combonation that i love. red frame with black fairings looks awesome. the advantage with the SV over the ninja is that the SV has been around for sometime and they are lots of goods out there for it. the ninja not much soo. but they just introduced it not too long ago.
bandits i guess are alright, i don't know much about them so i can't really tell you anything about them. iam sure though they would make a good first bike.
i would not suggest to get a katana. ugly, heavy, more of a touring bike than a performer.

why would you want a full faring on a starter bike anyway? its just more to replace when you drop it. and you probably will

I've got an 04 SV and I just got the Suzuki Lowers off Ebay for $400. The 08+ come with them but they are available prepainted for all the other years. I think it looks great and you don't have to take the lowers off to change the oil if you have a rear spool stand or a shallow drain pan. You can easily reach the oil filter and the drain plugs without touching the fairings. You can also get sliders for them that don't require cutting the lowers. As for the 650R, I wasn't impressed. I've gotten used to the lower ride position of my SV and the upright stance of the 650R made me feel like I was riding a cruiser. The power is very different between the two and I liked the SV much better. The suspension feel was a little better on the 650R than the SV but I've got GSXR 600 on mine and its no comparison between either of them.
