HID Temperature question....

So I am about to buy a kit from NITRO, and he says to just pick a color/temperature that 'gets me goin'. is it simply just a color, sorta like a neon sign, or is it a temperature thats brighter or darker? Which 'temperature' comes stock on like cars that come equpped with HID's?

if you want bright then i suggest no more than 6000 kelvin...anything over you are pretty much going for color. The higher the degrees the cooler the color example 12000k is purple and 10000k is bright blue. What ever you choose is up to you. Either way I believe that any of the degrees are still a good bit if not double the light output of halogen bulbs. thats my $0.02.

It is a reference purely for colour and could equally be called White , Green or Blue. The reality is the higher up the scale the lamps are the less bright they become. 4100K lamps are approx 20% brighter (measured in Lumens not degrees K) than the 6000K. If you want lighting performance the 4100K Philips lamps are the best on the market with 3500 lumen.

ya.. im about to put 9005 in my gf car instead of her 9006's.. 9005 put out 1700 lumens vs. 1000 lumens for 9006's..thats halogens, HID's are usualy around 3200 lumens... id probably go with 4300k or 6000k.. ya 6000k..

So true, people are often mislead by kelvin units. If you really want the color, project your HID's through projectors, even cheap projectors are better than regular halogen housing.

It's pretty simple, the higher the Kelvin the less light that is produced. 4000-5000 is the OEM bright white you seen on later model Acura's, etc...I think it's 4,300 to be exact.

The Brightest is the 3000k which is yellow, just like the GT cars you'd see at Rolex 24hrs/Daytona, Le Man, etc...they normally also have yellow film covering the lenses too.

I did that to my Mazda before I got projectors. I still need to get a HID kit...halogen projectors ftl. I did it to my tC a few months ago and I think I've been flashed twice. It's a very noticeable difference.

Most cars come with the range of 3k-5k.. 6k in some nissans now. I'd go with a 50watt kit. They are super bright with the tint of blue. I got 6k 50watt to be damn sure I didn't have a lighting issue. They look perfect.. hint of blue, bright as fuck. And just as they said.. The higher the K the lower the light.. but you can bypass that with going higher wattage. Normal HID kits are 35 watts and at 8k are dim as hell. But a 50watt 8k kit will put out as much light as a 35watt 5k kit... You've got an upper hand.
