    Default To many coilover setups!!!

    Hello there!

    I am about to embark on my first build from the ground up and I am now focused on the suspension aspect.

    I have been looking at full coilover setups, and all I am going by right now is price... In my mind, logic is telling me, "the more expensive, the better." But I know that, this is not always true.

    Just from word of mouth, I know that Teins are great, but people are saying that the ride height is to high, and I want to slam my db1 as low as possible, with out scrapping tires.

    Now, just with a brief overview of whats offered for 90=93 integras on Ebay, this is a list of coilovers:
    *Tein SS-P Coilover
    *Tein SS Coilover
    *D2 Racing coilover
    *Tein Basic Damper coilover
    *Omni Power coilover
    *Skunk2 Full coilover
    *NEX coilover

    (the rest are not full coilover systems, such as ground control and skunk2)
    If I want a significant drop, but still maintain a performance ride, if any, what full coilover should I go with? OR, if its better to use a mix of springs and shocks?

    TEIN SS with the Pillowball upper is the best out of that selection. I think Endless/Zeal makes a kit too.

    Does the Tein setup have camber plates? The D2 setup includes pillow-ball mounts, 32-way adjustability and camber plates on most applications.

    which one comes with the upper pillow ball? And im not sure it will fit a four door???

    I had tein basic's on my 240sx.. I personally felt they weren't aggressive enough for what I was looking for and ended up shelling out the cash for HKS coilovers..

    I spent alot more time researching spring rates and damping options after making the mistake of buying the Tein basics. I'd have saved myself alot of money and trouble if I hadn't made an impulse buy.

    soooo.....

    if I'm looking for a stiff, slammed ride, the tein basics aren't gunna please my needs? I thought they were sapposed to be a good bet. Well, dont forget, this is for a db1, so I dont think hks even makes an application for the 4 door da.

    How does it ride??? I'm just really bent on a one piece coilover. I'll prolly wither go with the tein's or the omnipowers.... It's just that with the whole spring/shock combo thingy, there are so many different combinations! I would drive myself crazy trying to figure out which one was going to give me a low but solid ride.

    if you want low as possible, get a coilover set up with adjustable lower mounts as well adjustable spring perch, I think that rules out some of the coilovers you listed.
    Please tell me if you think my car looks good. But don't tell me if you think it's ugly - only on IA

    Are you actually going to go to the track?

    Are you going to have it corner balanced?

    Are you going to slam it on the bumpstops so it looks uber tight yo?

    anyway... all I want to do is daily srive the car and have a stiff enough supension where I wont bounce. And yes I will take it to the track every blue moon, but to the strip, not to a course.

    I just figured since I was going to build it from the ground up, I don't wanna get something cheap that i'll regret! So... what do I have left???

    Koni shocks with ground control sleeves works better than most of that stuff. The Tein SS-Ps are ok if its just a driver. If you were going to take it to the track, road course then they are all junk

    With custom Eibach spring rates you can make a badass setup. Koni yellows FTW.

    For the drag strip you want to stiffen the hell out of the rear, you don't want it to squat on a FWD. Got a buddy with a N/A SOHC CRX running 13 flat or faster w/ a 1.6 sec 60'...the roll cage was welded directly to the rear suspension.

    Stiff enough to where you don't bounce? I assume you mean that lofty 80-90's Cadillac or Grand Marquis floating feeling or Charger landing a Dukes of Hazard jump? The rigid harsh bouncing is caused by a stiff spring that doesn't have a shock with matching rebound and dampening...like 90% of mini trucks scraping the hwy. reflectors up. You'll get that from a lowering spring on a stock or blown shock...or one with no shock at all.

    The suspension on the Raceworks Del Sol's is around $1,400 PER corner and took 8 years of R&D to get the perfect setup. It's a custom true coil-over dampener setup from Advance Design/Ground Control, they have over 200 applications using 175 differant Eibach springs...not exactly you're $199.99 Ground Control sleeve setup you're used to seeing http://www.ground-control-store.com/...egory.php/CA=4

    so as long as I get a decent spring with a decent shock, I can call it a day for street usage with occasional track stidts.

    Try to go with a linear (rather than progressive) spring.

    for drag you would want linear but for daily use it would be rough riding...in the end it comes down to a compromise between comfort and performance.

    If he already had coilovers in mind I don't think the ride should be too far off from what he is expecting. I had 9kg/7kg D2's on a 2800 lbs Maxima and the ride was much better than many spring/strut setups I have experience with for my chassis. It is true that higher linear-rate springs DO feel more minor road imperfections but I HIGHLY prefer that over a progressive-rate spring matched to an adjustable shock because like you said, it is a compromise between poise and comfort. Setting an adjustable shock to dampen at the levels that the spring operates during hard driving will not suit the spring during normal compression and initial travel and vice versa.

    The most important thing in suspension selection in my opinion is determining the actual goals/wants/needs of the application it's going into. I admit I have a personal bias for a high linear-rate setup.

    BTW TheChosenOne, try to ride in (possibly drive) cars with different setups.

    i got some k-sport full coilovers for my 90 integra for 560 shipped to my house, they are great. pm me if you want more info since i dont check section that often

    the ride quality is more a function of the capabilities of the damper.

    try the off the shelf koni yellows and ground control combo and it should be relatively safe and quite an upgrade for if you ever decide you want to do the occasional hpde or autox without going off course backwards.
