The Varsity Meet is the largest phenomenon in event history. You can't call off something that isn't even organized to begin with. The Varsity meet is like the full moon, someone can say they canceled it but the truth remains rain or shine, sleet or snow, it's going to happen as long as the 61 block of North Ave. is not a vat of smoldering hot lava...even then people will still drive their cars into it. They won't be able to stop themselves. There could be a shooting (knock on wood) and people would still show up the next month.
