How much does it cost to run in the NASA races? I'm in SCCA but can't for the life of me figure out how to get into the Honda Challenge races in NASA. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a current SCCA license then you can simply fill out the paperwork and get a NASA liecnse.

The cost for racing is $339 for Practice+Qualifying+35min Race on Saturday and Qualifying+45 min Race on Sunday at Road Atlanta. Anyone can come on out and spectate, it is open to the public. We also have a huge awards banquet that is free on saturday nite.

Well to run HC you must have a race car, like full cage, seat, harness, fire, driver suit, helmet, etc etc etc etc. Plus a racing license.

I'd highly recommend doing a Chin event if you want some hardcore track time. They are like the die hard track day organization.

I have heard that. Pretty much run run run run, get signed off, run run run run. Go home and die.

There is, you can bring anything out to do the NASA HPDE, granted you'll have more fun in a two door sports car, but we have seen Honda Odysseys out there.

Chin ($549) and BMWCCA($470) do offer more track time since they are a driving school/open track format. But NASA($399) also has extensive classroom instruction, races to watch and vendors who give away thousands of dollars worth of goodies at the free saturday nite awards dinner party.

Thanks for the info. Ok let me get this straight:

    1. Sign up for a NASA membership
    2. Go through all the HPDE events
    3. Get race car finished and track ready
    4. Obtain a NASA competition license
    5. Haul balls down the track!!!!

Let me know if I misunderstood anything.

That's the simplest version, but basically, yes. Our HPDE program is a progress at the student's pace program. Some people will advance more quickly than others.

I understand about the HPDE process, but can't find the regulations of what needs to be done to my car in order for it to be "competition ready". Isn't there usally a rule bule or something saying what all needs to be on the car. For example roll cage specs, fire extinguisher, etc. If anyone can provide a link to this or give me a place to start reading that would be helpful.

I'll vouch for that. It really doesn't have to be *that* expensive. H4 or H5 can be quite affordable as far as racing goes. Now, if you want to be competitive in H1, yeah....bettah be towing a vault.

Its really not expensive. You can pick up a H4 car for cheap...$6,000-$8000. Then run on take offs and your ready to go.

But if you wanna be competitive, yeah, its gonna cost a arm and a leg
