We still need to smooth some shit out, but obviously there's more to be had since we've already proven that....just need time. I was wayyyyy too tired tonight to be worth a damn; next time Mt. Dew>McFlurry to keep me awake.

the gains at peak are unimpressive to me sadly. the peak gains are tho. esp in the mid range. i think it wants more cam advance. i wanna try plus 5* across the board and smooth out the AFR. overlay the two graphs and see where that leaves us... i want another 5-6 above 8k.

Especially with that mani and now a good, FULL exhaust from the head back, there's no reason we shouldn't be peaking above 8k.

If anyone here even slightly interested in F1, you have to watch SENNA. That is the best movie I've seen in a while.

Meh, not too many complaints honestly, so pretty decent.

Quick question because soon Ill have to garage the Cobra for the winter.
    2011 EVO or 2011 STI Sedan(not hatch)
Commemts? Concerns? Never owned an AWD but I figured it would be the safest here and the most fun. Aftermarket parts im not too concerned with. Cobra is still my baby, just not going to drive a 700+hp RWD in Upstate New York snow lol.

I've thought about that exact comparison also and my vote ultimately goes to the Evo...

I have a 2010 STi hatch and love it. I was looking at EVO's and the STi seemed just nicer than the 2010 EVO. I have had it in the snow (not GA snow, real north snow) and it is useless without snow tires. It's dangerous with the OE tires (I am a professional driver for all intents an purposes and drove in Ohio winters for 20 years).

I was hoping you'd chime in. Ya snow tires would be a must here for sure. Im leaning towards a Subaru but im not a fan of the hatch's....but I love me some of that sedan . Thanks for the input.

Mike Torres, who has just recently bought a 2011' STi sedan, was telling me he's already having issues. Apparently it's a common issue for these to be having hesitation issues and premature failures. Also something about Subaru not currently fulfilling warranty issues on the motor itself due to a shortage of blocks worldwide. I'm no Subbie enthusiast so I suggest you confirm these findings yourself, just passing on the info since you're prospectively looking to purchase.

As much as I am an EVO lover, I would have to say STi.

CObb Software smoothes out the throttle response...............

I am not sure how one would ruin a new car to a point that it needs a motor already. I worked a racing school last summer and watched 2 08-10 STi hatches run all day long in 100 degree heat on the track. Mine is a 2010 and hasn't performed anything short of flawlessly in 9K miles. My only complaint is the tires. The OE dunlops are very noisey. At 9K miles of easy driving (wife drives it 99% of the time), all 4 are terribly cupped and have been since 4k.

Be sure to get the touchscreen NAV, its a nice setup. Audio could be a little louder, but I am used to the 2000W stereo in the dually.

the factory tunes on the 07+ (yes 07 even tho its the previous bodystyle) sucks like bad moose cock- emissions is the culprit. like dumont said, some type of tuning software be it AccessPort or opensource (my vote) is a necessity. if the rumors are correct the 2012 cars should get an update over the '11.
theres no shortage of blocks anywhere trust me. theres 2 sitting at the local dealership right now. 2009 WRX's had issues with motors going due to mechanical reasons (since been remedied) and subaru warranted 99% of them (they all let go pretty early in life).

I'm not much of a religious person and I have nothing against anyone that is but damn does it irritate me when people claim "they've found GOD". WTF? Did you die and come back or something? Anyways...that's the last I'll post on that subject as I see it becoming nasty rather quickly.

In regards to the topic of STi vs Evo. A lot of the issues were found to be in the factory tune. Due to the bore size and short stroke and the addition of bad gas, the motors seems to call it quits. There have been reports of motors blowing the main ringland as early as ~1,500 miles. Now obviously Subaru will warranty the issue as long as the motor is stock; ex: stock tune. The OTS (over the shelf) tunes that Cobb offers are tuned on the rich side to keep the motors safe for liability issues. Although the car will definitely feel stronger, it will not provide the power as an independent tune.

If I were in your shoes Phil, I would choose the STi over the Evo for winter use. Next time you're in NY, look and you'll notice there are more Subaru's than Evos. If I were to go out and buy a brand new one, I would choose the STi as well but if I were to choose between the GD chassis (02-07 WRX/STi) or CT9A (Evo VIII/IX), I would choose the CT9A all day in regards to a performance aspect.

    Couldn't agree more!
The only thing I will add to the whole tuning issue: the factory tunes have tunes biggest problem is a really long open loop delay which means you'll hit 15psi+ and maintain an AFR of 14.7:1 untill roughly 4500rpm. And like steve mentioned, the ringlands give out quickly!!
Phil, unless you GOTTA have an STI, I recommend saving some coin and getting a WRX. They respond to bolt-ons better than the STI imo and are comparabaly quick in a straight line. If autocross and/or road race is in the plans (u said it was a winter duty vehicle) maybe the STI would be worth the price d ifference for you.
