Default Old skool. RWD Jap cars Only June 14,3:00 buford dam

Calling all old skool RWD Japanese streetfighters. I.E. All AE86 corollas and older, all supras, third gen and down. All RWD celicas,Rwd cressidas and maximas, coronas, Datsuns, 510, 610, 710, 210, 810, 200sx, all z cars 1989 down, Any Datsun roadsters out there? Starions/conquests 1989 down. Rx's? Rx2, 3,4,cosmo. 7I, and 7II You guys get my drift. Is there any love out there for these cars? Lets come up with a day a time and place to do a cruise in.
12 Ae86's just got together at a sonic one thursday night. Surely, there are at least 10 to 15 old skool Jap cars that could ride out one night. Show a little respect for the cars that started all of this "Import Stuff"
Give some ideas and opinions, When, Where, What, What part of town are you in? What kind of car?

I'm from Auburn/Lawrenceville, We would be riding in a 77 celica GT, 5 speed 1983 Maxima, A Datsun 710 maybe a 510, a couple of 1st gen Rx 7's. I'd like to see, first, a cruise in meet like at a Sonic or something similar, and if the interest is there maybe a group ride to Stone mtn, buford dam, or Helen Etc. It would be cool to see and hear a bunch of loud-azz old skool bumble bees ride up Neal's Gap or Blood Mtn.
    Let me hear from you!

The Dates. June, 12, 8:00 pm sonic ob sattellite blvd at Gwinnett place mall. Just a cruise in Then SATURDAY, JUNE, 14, at Buford Dam the lower pool park, (the river side, not lake side) at 3:00 pm till close followed by a ride out to BP on Pleasant Hill Rd.

Directions from I-85: Go to Lawrenceville-Suwanee Rd, go west, (towards Buford Hwy) L'ville-Suwanee will turn into Suwanee Dam. Stay on Suwanee dam Rd until it dead ends into Buford Dam Rd. Turn Left, drive out on to the dam. At the spillway turn Left on to the dirt road going to the bottom of the dam. If you don't want to get on to the dirt road, alternative paved parking is available to the left, before the spillway. This parking lot is connected by a walking trail, to where the meet will be. If your coming to spectate this would be a good parking lot to park in, because I'm afraid space is going to be limited in the lower area, due to the number of cars already comitted to the meet. Thanks, and hope to see you at the Dam Old Skool Meet.

Sheesh, the "normal" early Japanese cars are rare enough these days, But yeah, some soarers or chasers, or early skylines and other Rare JDM cars would be cool. Maybe there are some out here in Atlanta

I think anyone should be welcome to come out and check out the cars. However, DrAE86 you could be in a hachi, by the time we hammer down a time and place to meet. I'm thinking early to mid june, like two or three weeks out. I'm trying to get my ae86 done by this thursday to meet up with the 86 guys at atlantic station. I might check and see what they would think about maybe once a month being open to all old schools.

hehe the problem with me is that im all about the right platform..and basically im only looking right now for something that was as clean...or cleaner than my old 86...so im a bit picky about it..lol..if i find that before the next meet then awsome!

Well, like I said give me some input and lets work out the details. I really consider the AE86 as the first of the new school cars or last of the old school cars. I really feel around 1986 was the last year of old school cars because most auto manufacturers had finally switched to fuel injection and a more modern or luxurious interiors.
Some cars such as the AE 86, Mitsubishi starion, the NissanZX series, and 200Sx were started in the early eighties. So I feel we can't just put a year model as the cut off. I feel the 240 sx is a modern era car even a 1989.
I also feel like an old skool is a car where ingenuity is as important as having money. Let me explain...A person can buy pretty much any honda or 240sx and as long as they can bolt on the "pre-engineered" parts they bought off of E-bay or a magazine they can build a fast car with a minimal amount of effort. Take an old skool car like a "75 Datsun 710 or a '74 Toyota corona Mark II, for example, there are no new body panels available, no "easy" bolt in engine upgrades. If your old skool you know it, because you and your old skool friends scratched your heads and figured out by trial and error how to bring this cool azz car back to life and out on to the streets to kick some new cookie cutter style car's a**.
Why RWD only? If you got something cool and fwd? Enlighten me. No dumbass 1984 crx is going to sway me to let in front drive cars. You got like a 1979 Datsun F-10? 1976 honda cvcc civic with a tail gate and 4 mikuni motorcycle carbs on it? Probably tell you to bring your badazz OG Fwd
Keep it up and let's come up with some cars and a place
    Thanks for the input!

I agree with revsk8terdude. Leave out the "idiot" part, Show up with an old skool Jap car and hang out. I think if your arguing about, what IS an old skool car, then you prolly don't own, or drive one.

I agree with the leaving out the idiot word. It wasn't called for. As far as your assumption goes about who does or does NOT own one, check around as there are factual answers to your queries. Later, QD.

Alright, I see a possible 280zx, a couple of Fc's, and some old school civics from this site. I'll be bringing with my group a 74 datsun 710, 83 rwd maxima, 84 rx7 gsl se, 83 rx7, maybe a couple of corolla GTS's, 82 corolla 1.8, 72 rx2, and maybe a couple more cars that are being finished up by some friends.
I'll prolly ride out to the V, but it's to tough to try to pull together a bunch of cars there.
I think andretti's is a good place, suwanee has a decent park with some restaurants and plenty of parking.
Us old skoolers need to link up, cuz ,it's not like parts for most of these cars are at autozone. Maybe I got some parts for your 510 or maybe you got some interior parts for my 74 Corona Mark II, Maybe Bob's got a hook up with some OG JDM wheels. It takes a bunch of cooperative people to keep the OG cars on the road.
what about thursday June 12? It can be later, I have several friends with some work in progress on ther cars. Check in, about what car, when, and where!

hey QD, I'v been building 510's, roadsters, zcars, corollas etc since i was 16, and that was 1986. Now it's 2008 and I build them for me and for customers. I'm sure some one has determined what is a "factual" old skool car. I just say it's a matter of semantics, and seems to be turning into a waste of time. At our shop we don't have a book to go by for most of the repairs and fabrication on these old japanese cars. I can't just go buy a turbo kit for an L-20b or a tubular crossmember for a corona so I can run a more modern power plant. It's an old school way of building things, It's an old school way of having a network of people that are into these kind of cars. A network of people, that are friends, and the common goal is to see OG sh*t on the streets. Cool?
Now, on to Whtdc2. Awesome. I'm looking at maybe June 12 at? what part of town are you in? Most of my group will be riding in from around Gwinnett. I bet a Ka 510 pulls hard. Torque.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. According to your statement/philosophy, if I'm arguing about what is old school, I probably don't have one. I invited you to check out a few members that were "arguing." I happen to own a 79 CVCC that I daily drive right now.

I'd love for a meet like this to happen. But if it's on a week night, then I'll probably hold off until a weekend one can be put together. Daylight hours is prime time to check these cars out. Later, QD.

Yeah, i really want to see this all come to life too. My first car was kindof a true old schooler, but i couldnt find the parts for it so i ended up swapping it out for something a little newer..... i went from a carbureted '87/88 corolla to a '90 integra.

I do think that the 'RWD' part of it all is a bit much though.... I'll just agree with this guy:

The title of the thread i think should be changed to "Classic JDM Car Meet" that cant be argued, it sets a boundary of 1983. If your eligable for a classic car plate you can come, i dont think the guy who started this thead was looking for a big turnout, it would just be cool to see a meet with 70's and early 80's z's, supras, rx7's, celicas, and such.

Well then how are the hachi's gonna be considered? They're 3 years too young in that case....

AE86s aren't quite old school. But close enough to bring them to a meet. Later, QD.

I'm sure some one has determined what is a "factual" old skool car. I just say it's a matter of semantics, and seems to be turning into a waste of time. At our shop we don't have a book to go by for most of the repairs and fabrication on these old japenese cars. I can't just go buy a turbo kit for an L-20b or a tubular crossmember for a corona so I can run a more modern power plant. It's an old school way of building things, It's an old school way of having a network of people that are into these kind of cars. A network of people, that are friends, and the common goal is to see OG sh*t ob the streets. Cool?
Now, on to Whtdc2. Awesome. I'm looking at maybe June 12 at? what part of town are you in? Most of my group will be riding in from around Gwinnett. I bet a Ka 510 pulls hard. Torque.
Yup dave, is a cool guy to know, has some really nice cars, and is right when he said that it takes a bounch of people to keep this cars running and on the streets, if it wasent for forums and other people like dave some of the parts for thees cars would be almost impossible to get, you wont know how hard or expensive they are to get untill you own one of thees cars, that is why old skool cars get so much attention and respect, because of all the hard work and patience the person that has the car put into it. Because just changing the oil, or a tune up is not enough to keep this cars on the road. So dave/jhon you know some of the rotary's will repressent at the meet even tho we dont meet the age requirements yet, the rx7 has its fair share of reputation as a jap. car.

Puregroove be kickin a triple OG corolla. sweet. Rarely, see TE rollas anymore. I got a CLEAN front grille for one if yours is damaged. We had a nice brown 4 door but it got t-boned HARD. So we pulled the nice parts off, just in case....RIP to tha big pull-a-part in the sky.
GT4rcdude I'll probaly get roasted for this, but you got an awesome, rare, "historically" significant toyota. I'd be sad if you didn't show up with your car.
Silver 280zx I don't know what this thread should be called, but most of our cars are USDM. I know matter of semantics. You are correct about the "rice" thing I guess I'm just trying to "detuner" this gathering. read "anti-rice" Although, anyone that wants to come by and check out the cars is welcome. I think this is the only way we can generate interest in these cars, and try to attract more people to try to save these cars from being scrapped, and sent to china. I don't know how big this thing is going to turn out, but if anyone comes to spectate, please be cool and let us try to park all of the cars together for some photos. This could turn out to be a really cool event.
Thanks Chava, I already had you on the original list. I knew you'd want to be reppin' that OG sidedraft mikuni on your 5 letter 13 b. Hey, did you see that chic lookin at your wankle?
Now on to business, I'm kinda with quickdodge about a daytime meet, for viewing purposes, and for reliability purposes. Most OG cars, it seems, are always in a project state. We'll be bringing out like 4 to 6 cars most of which are projects not even started, just running nearly stock cars.(with their share of problems) I think maybe we should have a cruise in at the sonic where the AE86's meet thursday June 12. It's on Sattelite blvd near Gwinnett Mall around 7:30 or 8:00 to whenever. Or, Saturday at the bottom of Buford dam at the river from like 3:00 to 8:00. It's usually about 10 to 15 degrees cooler below the dam than anywhere in atlanta. Plus if you haven't been there, It's a pretty cool place. Or, we can push it back to end of June. Let me Know. Post some pics of what you'll be driving. I'll do the same.
