Cool NOT EF RELATED: help me decide between 2jz 240 or buy an evo

I already have a beater POS s13 coupe.

I am going to do something asap - just have to decide:

    1. Put a 2jz swap into my 240.

    Pro's: light, fast, reliable.

Con's: no abs, old (18yr old car), beat up looking, very little resale value in a pinch, 4seater but only 2doors. It will take time to get the build done, so that means some significant downtime. No radio currently.

    2. Buy an EVO RS (or MR) and pretty much leave it alone.

Pro's: awd, decently quick, somewhat reliable if not modded too much, 4dr. Better residual value if I should need to sell it at some point in the future. Decent radio.

Con's: cost would be $5k to $10k more. No abs on the RS. Insurance would be $50 more per month to insure. Expensive wear items such as brakes and rotors, clutch, and tires. As such, I wouldn't be able to spend much on upgrades.

Either way, I've always wanted to do a 500whp build and I now have the opportunity. But 500whp in a 2400lb 240 is a lot faster than 500whp in a 3400 awd evo..... Also, I will have AC and will try to retain Power Steering in whichever build I do.

eh. 2jz 240 seen it, its fast, wasn't comfortable OR reliable. big hp = big problems. just the way it usually goes. break something while playing with a 2jz and see if it doesn't cost more pennies than you think.

Evo = purist and win. reflash if you feel the need for more power. RELIABLE, sure brakes, clutch and tires wear out but seriously... you planning on launching 24/7 and slamming on the brakes any chance you get?

i had the same idea before i bought my s2k. as much as i wish i had somthing to tinker with... i'm glad i don't mess with something every single day on my car to keep it running or have to constantly dump money into things i don't really wanna buy

I'm kind of leaning towards the 240.

Although I like the evo, I'm not sure I could justify spending $10k more for a slower car that costs more to insure, and a rediculous amount for brakes, rotors, and clutch replacement.

It's also kind of hard to find an evo that hasn't been beaten on - and if you do find one, it's priced a lot higher...

I say EVO but the key factor is do you want to still modify cars or just ride?

The EVO is a pretty good package to begin with so it's not like you're starting off with a Civic (lol).
