    Default Drifting

is figure skating in a car.

Figure skating is the effeminate version of Hockey, so is Drifting the effeminate version of racing?

Eh... I don't directly see a correlation, but here's my problem with drifting.

a.) Most people claim they can drift, and have never done it in their lives (at least properly).
b.) Drifting is the second hardest thing you can do TO your car. Rally being the first... Breaking shit for style points = Not cool in my book.
c.) In a race there is a first place and second, third, fourth etc... Easy to judge who is the best. Drifting is subjective... Three judges give their score based on their opinion. One judge might be partial to a certain competitor because that competitor had... Oh, lets say butt-sex with that judge the night before because as we all know. Drifters are gay, just like figure skaters.
d.) Takes massive amounts of skill. It looks easy, and everyone that has ever done a power-slide thinks they can do it, but no... You can't. Doing it at speed is completely different. (kinda like point a.)... but I really want to emphasize this point)
e.) For what it is... It's massively over-hyped (not so much lately, but think NOPI drift days) and fan-boi's will gravitate to anything if they think it will get them laid.
    f.) I love lamp

The whole scean is turning pretty gay imo. Its more like a fashion show then a car show now a days. Comments like those wheels look really good if they are real! are just plain stupid reminds me of grade school kids arguing over who's jordans are real! And stickers all over the windows is the new rice same thing and when people put them on the driver door back in 2000 in the fast and furious days!
Bike racks and stupid offsets and streched tires and other pointless fads are really gay!

There is not one time where I ever enjoyed drifting. I've always seen it as pointless. Now I can't judge someone who does like it, because that is his/her choice. Later, QD.

i enjoyed it back when we called it " a race car getting sideways ".

when they started doing it on purpose, it became extremely lame.

Drifting is FUN but stupid. It's pointless, competitive drifting is just ignorant, and the amount of scene kids involved in it now make it something most people try to ignore.

I always give the skater kid example. They walk around with a board, dress the style, talk the talk, and can't do any real tricks. Drift kids are the same, they can do a burnout or a little power over steer in a corner and that's it. BOOM I'm a drifter.

My last FD was 2010 and left a little after lunch both days. Didn't go this year. It's just boring. Haven't been to a local event in years. It's fun to do I guess but just gets old quick.

    Drifting is easy.

It was fun about 5-6 years ago and before. The first couple of FD events were decent....now it's just a hipster fanboi hangout. The OG Japanese drifting is actually fun to watch because it's not the boring Americanized crap. To them, it seems to be about driving over the limit and being smooth...it hit Amurrrrika and it suddenly became all about SMOKE! SMOKE! SMOKE! AND MOARRRR SMOKE!!! Knowing how to peroperly drift (not powersliding in the wet) can have some benefits in other motorsports when it comes to reacting to some situations too. Also, I agree that the local events turned into a bunch of broke-ass highschoolers that wanted to proclaim they were "drifters" and spent more time spinning out and wasting everyone else's time - though I can't I've been to a local event recently. It was fun to drive a car outside the friction circle and taking on the challenge of balancing throttle input, brake inputs steeting inputs, gaining and losing grip and making the car do what I wanted it to do...all at the same time.

But what do I know about drifting......

Out of curiosity, where are these broke highschoolers supposed to learn how to perform? If they practice on the street, they risk jail time and/or injury; if they actually do things correctly and attend drift events, they're pushed to the side and mocked? I'm not standing up for anyone because you're right, there are "SceneKids" - but this attitude of "better have been born with a steering wheel in your hand or go home" is a good way to nullify the success of any event. The Atlanta chapter of the SCCA is about the only place i've seen where this mentality doesn't exist, which is why i don't mind driving 2+ hours to attend their events.

I was wondering the same. People have to learn somewhere. I used to do scca but I'll probably do some drift events over the summer. Sure people have a tendency to act like a-holes but that doesn't make shit any less fun when you're whipping the car around. Legally anyway.

Yes! No one should attend events, just do it on the streets. If you're really good, the cops won't be able to catch you. Thanks for assuming that I said that no one should go to an event because they're all brokeass highschool kids..every last one of them. Unless you have a professional driver's license (class C), you shouldn't be allowed to attend an event.

My opining is my opinion. About the time I stopped doing it, there seemed to be a growing group, of particularly younger kids with cars that seemed to barely be able to make it to an event and they were just there to hold their foot to the firewall for as long as possible and wasting everyone's time. So I am not allowed to point out my observations? If you're not one of those people, why get offended? There is absolutely nothing wrong with learning, I've helped a number of people out at events and whatnot who were just learning....leaning doesn't bother me, coming out to just fuck around does and the people who were coming out and fucking around just happened to seem to fit a particular description. Hell, one of the forums I've been posting on for years, ClubRoadster, has turned into a shit hole...and you know what I lump most of the newer members into who are making that site turn to shit? Broke-ass kids. Same mentality of barely being able to afford a $1000 car, and being a complete dumbass. I've stopped posting there because of said asshats. I guess that means that no one should be using that website for any kind of information/socializing because I feel it's being over run by a bunch of stupid kids...lol

Drifting in America has turned into rolling burnouts. I didn't like many "drift" kids in the states because they thought it was cool to have a fucked up car with zip-ties and they though they were the best drivers. Americans ruin everything good... I like to diversify and try everything. Drifting is a freaking blast and so is racing. Do what makes you happy.

    I agree with jonathan.

My own opinion is that drifting is difficult, and fun to watch.

You guys are whining because "fanboys" ruined it, and made it lame. There will always be fake people who talk about things they know nothing about. This isn't new at all and definitely not restricted to drifting. You older guys should know this better than anyone. No one ruined drifting or made it lame. If you don't like it, you don't like it. That's just your opinion.

i dont like the culture of it being ok if your car is busted up. outside of that, can take it or leave it, dont particularly like watching drifting, but doesnt effect me either way.

i kinda enjoyed drifting before it was rolling burn outs like the other guy said.

I very much enjoy it. Im not one of "those guys" go to some of the Cordele events u will hate them even more. Lots of fan boys and down right idiots. Thats the part of the sport I hate. People get super big headed and think there god cause they can somewhat hold a line. Now the girls that are there omg even fucking stupider. I dont understant y drifting has to have its own "personality" I dress the same my car looks stock no crazy stickers and I dont act like a dumb ass who never takes a bath. Go figure lol.

One ride with Ken block will scare some respect into anybody who hates on the talent of controlling a car in the same manner of you when you lock on the brakes right before you end up in that ditch or that neighbors yard or even the car you once thought of nice in front of yoU. DRIFTING IS SKILL ENGRAVED WITH STYLE!!!!!

Drifting is alright, I enjoy going out and trying to slide around a bit but really that is where it ends. There are far too many people who think it is cool to have a busted ass car. To me if your car looks like shit that does not mean you are an ubber cool drifter it means you hit shit and probably suck. I personally prefer road racing and AutoX. Both are a shit ton of fun but there is some car control that can be learned from drifting. The scene will be driftings ultimate down fall in the end, scene kids suck and so do their cars.

Just as a first time attendee last sunday to a Drift event I'd like to toss in 2 cents.
I come from Autox and having a blast every time. Decided to try out this whole drifting thing. I'll say it was a friggin blast! I went down to cordelle and probably had about 60-70 "runs" that day. Was I amazing? hell no. Did I ever have a flawless run? I wish. But I will say it was very fun and light-hearted. No one was talking a bunch of crap and only one guy was there doing the "burnout" drifts(annoying, but bearable). I plan on going next month and hope to do even better. I don't have a busted-ass-car or zipties everywhere, and it seemed like only a handful of people out there did.
I don't get why people get all high and mighty about certain things like this. I mean if you don't like it cool, no probs. but no need to be an asshat about it. I think Digs and rolls are gay as hell, but I don't go making threads about it.

try and make it out to the cordelle stuff. I've heard that Turner is pretty much exactly what everyone else is talking about. Idk, I haven't been, but people I know that have pretty much say the same thing. I will say, the event I went to wasn't really a competition(i.e. there were no places or judges) it was really just a good handful of people wanting to have some fun and do it safely.
