    Default Forged Performance: Alpha 10 GT-R Pump Gas Record + 957whp C16

We've had the pleasure to work on many of Doug's fun project cars over the years, but this one is definitely the pinnacle of his collection. His car made it back down to us from his home in Illinois after only being back in his hands for a few months. His previous 630 whp setup just wasn't enough to satisfy his need for power. He wanted a true street monster that would wax just about anything in its path while still being a civilized daily driver. The heart of the build consisted of an AMS Alpha 10 setup paired with our FP1-R 3.8L in-house assembled power plant capped with a pair of our FP Spec big valve cylinder heads. With these power goals in mind, several areas need to be upgraded including the engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, wheels and tires...the works.

Many of you recognize our tradition of building balanced track worthy cars that can still be driven daily. When tasked with building a very fast street car, our balanced philosophy is no different. We added a properly sprung set of JRZ RS Pro Silent Edition Coilovers, our Forged Performance Extreme Performance Sway Bar Set with Racing End Links, Endless MX72 brake pads, and a custom spec'd set of 20X10 20X12 HRE wheels wrapped in a square set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires 315/35/20. We even installed a discrete Passport 9500ci radar detector and laser jammer to offer some modicum of protection from the law. The acceleration is neck snapping while the handling remains razor sharp. Our transmission shifts superbly on the upshift and downshift, responding instantaneously to the paddles. There is a lot to be said for a car that not only makes tremendous power, but can also effectively lay it down to the ground and that's what we've accomplished here.

While we were planning this project, we knew this car was going to be a beast, but we weren't quite prepared for the end result, especially since we consider this a fast spooling balanced daily driven setup. After Sharif worked his magic in front of his Thinkpad, we made an incredible 838 whp @ 24psi on 93 octane on our low reading Dyno Dynamics! Like most shops that use unlinked dyno rollers, we ran the car in 2wd mode in order to preseve the front drive clutches. We were not 100% sure, so we had to confirm with AMS that this was in fact the highest WHP Alpha 10 on 93 octane to date. This car also made 957 whp @ 30psi at 8000rpm on C16 before our dyno gave out. Until we update our dyno software and run larger gauge power cables to the dyno, It appears we are going to have to go to another local dyno to complete the race gas tune on this monster. Stay tuned for updated race gas numbers in the near future! With 5psi left to go, it's no doubt this beast has more room to run.

Traction is an issue to say the least, we have a set of 18 inch TE37SL's and drag radials and with that we should expect 0-60 in the low 2 second range.

The front clutches on the GT-R have a tendency to overheat when you do 30+ back to back pulls on a dyno. To preserve them most shops dyno tune the car this way once you start getting in the 700+ WHP range. Once the car is on the street or track this isn't an issue, but on the dyno it is just a safety measure.

Any numbers based on the power going to all four wheels?

It's not supposed to be, it is. You're not ignorant so I'm sure you know 850+ WHP on pump gas, low 9 second capable drag times and the reliability to drive cross country is not an easy task.

Well, the GT-R's drive system is RWD on the street until it senses a loss of traction then it converts to AWD to help split the power. I have driven a 704 WHP GT-R with the front driveshaft removed and from 60mph it hooked and pulled hard with zero wheel spin. If that car still had the front driveshaft, it wouldn't have been powering the front wheels in that situation so it being RWD on the dyno is a very accurate. The GT-R's AWD system is a lot more advanced than say, and Evo or STI, it only uses the front wheels when it is needed. Also the drivetrain loss to the pavement is a lot less than most AWD cars as well.

Just to go a little more in depth regarding the reasons we typically tune higher HP GT-R's in RWD mode, the front drive clutches are perfectly happy driving the front wheels as long as the front and rear rollers are working and locked together, just like they would work on a public road. On an un-linked dyno system such as the Dyno Dynamics, or DynoJet, running the car in 4WD mode means the front drive system is spinning up the front roller without help from the rear. This would be like standing the car on it's nose and accelerating it down the street. AMS, Shep, and pretty much all the tuners agree on this. We are working on a custom modification to our dyno, where we will link the rollers together. For extended tuning sessions, it's simply a lower risk approach to disable the front drive. This would make our life much easier as R/R'ing front shaft gets old. Keep in mind, we only do this on builds that approach 700whp and beyond. For stock turbo setups we feel the risks are minimal and continue using the dyno in 4WD mode.

Thanks for the questions Steve, come out to C&O this weekend and check it out in person.

This cars 60-130 SHOULD be in the LOW 4 second range.....a stock Veyron is 5.6.....a y-pipe + tune GT-R is around mid 8 seconds.....a stock 430 is 10.1

Chad...dude...I was joking with you lol. I have yet to see one in Atlanta (though I've heard rumors of a couple being here). I was also implying that this car could put up one hell of a fight...so much that I couldn't really give my opinion on who would win.

Oh you tease! I have heard of a few running around and hoping you were serious lol this car would WALK a Veyron(yes I am bench racing lol). The new Veyron SS claims 9.9 1/4 mile and GT-R's with similar power as this one typically run 9.1-9.3.

Real track numbers on 18" TE37 and drag radials soon

Yeah the R35 GT-R's drive system is insanely intelligent! This is just one of the many things that allow the car to use its power so effectively.

For obvious reasons we don't release exact information on the cost of customers builds but for a fully built 1000-ish WHP GT-R you going to spend roughly:
    $65k-ish for a nice 2009 GT-R
    $80k-ish for the motor/head/trans/turbo build

then you want good suspension which would run around $5-7k, brakes for $3-4k, wheels are tires for like $6-8k

It is far from cheap but then again the end result is a supercar killer that runs low 9's, handles extremely well, has the braking capabilities to bruise your shoulders(happened to me at the tail of the dragon) all while keeping your butt warm in the winter and having navigation incase you get lost.

To my surprise the GT-R still pulls hard up top, unlike other AWD cars. Using a black box to record 60mph-130mph times is a big deal these days. Check out those times using google, very interesting stuff.

Dragtimes car is a Switzer P800 kit, which puts down about 700whp on our dyno....which is 250whp less than this car.

...and stop being a stranger, call me when you have time.
