Some of the comments in here are hilarious...before you all talk you should know your facts. You could even buy these from Dodge caged and ready to race. They made the Neon ACR a street legal track car, they dominated SCCA SS racing, they had their own series, etc.

    Car enthusiast? More like ricers.

    This ^^^^

The only thing truly shitty about the acr/rt (and a few high-line models) is that the 420A is like a head-gasket holocaust for some. My first car was a 97' sohc and it was a joy to own. Never gave me any problems.

I went to a SCCA track day with my FSAE team and there was a guy that had Neon ACR with light motor mods and some suspension work and it was owning everyone else that was there. It surprisingly faired better than a handful of Nissan Zs, a Single turbo Celica Supra that was track prepped and a bunch of track Miatas.

If you did SCCA events I'd say get one of these cause no one will necessarily expect you to do so well and you can destroy most of the competition.

Here's a little something that most people don't know: The neon was created when Chrysler approached their design team and asked them to make a car that would be competitive in road racing, in SCCA. This car was designed around road and track capabilities.

With that knowledge, now maybe the all plastic interior that just snaps in place and the lack of luxury parts will make sense. It was all to keep this car as light as possible. The first generation neon outranked every other car in its class as far as performance. This car started off with contingency programs in racing. This car was winning trophies in damn near every race out back then.

I speak from experience on the last part as I won championships in 1999-2000 in my 1996 neon.

It's cool to throw your opinion around about how it looks, but to knock something that you may not know, doesn't look good on your part. I'm not trying to bash on you, just educate you fellas.

And the word that one member was looking for is "retarded". Not retarted. Later, QD.

rejs second car was a 95 sedan, and i was amazed at how it had no options.. but all you had to do is either buy the switch and part and you can have it...lol

if you wanted foglights, buy oem foglights, and the oem switch.. and you got it.. the harness was already there...just not plugged in..i always lked that about neons

I meant to change that to DOHC. It was not available on SOHC models.

Yep. Same with tachs. You could buy the gauge cluster with tach and just push it in place and it would start working. Already wired for it. Later, QD.

When I was there is did better than more than 40 cars that day and put down a time of atleast 2 seconds faster then the second fastest guy in a track Miata. I've only been to a few SCCA events, but just saying the car surprised us all. Never knew a Neon would be so fast around a track.

It also surprised us because it came pretty close to our FSAE cars lap times within almost a second.

It's actually a factory color exclusive to the ACR.

My comment was towards your comment of "no one will expect you to do well." When the first gen neon first arrived on the scene, EVERYONE expected it to do well. Because it did. The neon was one the most popular new cars on the track. Everyone knew they had to race harder because there were neons out there.

The neon even had its own race as well. The Neon Racing Cup. I always wanted to put mine in, but never made it. Later, QD.

Well I am then learning about it!

This is what I get to work on in college.

440lb car with a GT12 Turbocharged GSXR 600 making 91rwhp and 64ft/lbs of torque on E85 through a 19mm restrictor. We knew our race cars were very fast around SCCA style tracks, but didn't expect the Neon to be so close.
