yesssir

fo sho dems the esses
word up. Thanks. I thought it was, just needed confirmation.
Everyone had to go check forza 2 really quick.
If you've been there enough times, you don't have to check shit.Originally Posted by Sentra
Yeah that is RA. The picture was taken before the paving and way before the wall move. Picture is taken from top of esses.
yeppers
this is exactly what I was waiting for.Originally Posted by GKtib®
Haha damn that is old, I forgot how close that wall is. This is turn 4 technically.
Good pic lol road atlanta? sure*
ok...so now that everyone has agreed i'll question it...the turns all look quite similar but it doesn't look like much of a hill to the left in the picture, looks more like trees down below instead of the bathhouse up on the hill there.
of course most of us were not hanging out there 10 years ago either...or this is newer than i think...but i'll be the first to question if its even road atlanta...and yes i've been there plenty of times and been around the track quite a bit too.
no doubt at all it looks a ton like it but i'm honestly not %100 convinced that it is RA...just to stir things up, lol.
I think the photo might be playin your eyes a bit.
I hope you're kidding...lol.Originally Posted by chuck

It's before the walls in the esses were moved back, you don't see 5's corner station because it's further up the hill a little. I mean look at the damn tire walls. Look at the clay. Look at the line.![]()
THIS IS ROAD ATLANTA. The picture looks edited anyway.![]()
yep
Good thread.
I'll admit i wasn't sure at first. Had to turn my head to see it.
thats not RA.
that looks like silver dollar, after Ive had a couple.![]()

i dunno...i was thinking this was kinda right in front of the corner station, kinda right at the cut through if anything...but then was looking for the bathhouse hill??Originally Posted by simontibbett
lol, i hope i don't make the wrong turns next weekend...will you be working the next NASA weekend? look for me in the green E36 and chris in the black Z4.
Things look blurred out, like there are no visible curbs.
I'll be working yeah, but I work for Road Atlanta not NASA.
cool...should see you there!! get the blue flag ready for the Z4Originally Posted by simontibbett
hopefully not too many yellows for my E36, lol
That pic is really old, doesn't even have the rumble strips/alligators on the inside of the turns.
This is the exact opposite view looking at the same turns...

Haha will do.![]()

that is throwing me off too...
and yes everyone...at a glance it does still look %789078907 like RA, but i'm still wondering...believe it or not there are esses downhill at other tracks, not just in the most famous photo spot at road atl....lol
so anyone have a guess at the date?? and what year did the xb's come out anyhow??
They leveled off the area at turn 4. Most of the old asphalt that got dug up when they rearranged the track (and i think everything they cut out at 12) was then put at the bottom of turn 4 and they filled over the top of it and repaved everything. I can't remember the exact amount but I am thinking it's in the range of several hundred truck loads of fill and debri is under where turn 4 is today...it was completed at the beginning of last year with a few of the earlier season events having to be postponed or canceled.Originally Posted by chuck
The picture COULD even be photoshopped, but it's Road Atlanta. The racing line, the color dirt, the trees, the tire wall, all of that is 100% Road Atlanta.
Turn 4 as in the entry of the esses? I've never heard that, why would they have?Originally Posted by speedminded
Motorcycles mostly. Remember the HUGE amount that was cut out of 12 to make that turn safer? They took the outside wall of 12 and moved it all the way back to the road in front of the helicopter pad. That concrete wall and all that dirt was all trucked over to turn 4 leveling out the low spot then they paved over it. This was all done AFTER they repaved the entire track otherwise they would have lost the account for the 2 largest motorcycle races.Originally Posted by simontibbett
That's why all the pics of the essess that are over a year old look so different.

Here's after they cut the outside of turn 12 out (what you see today)...
This is what it looked like before a year and a half ago ago...
Here's after they repaved it but before the outside of 12 and pit lane was changed...with the new pavement the bikes would be going too fast through 12 and the outside was already too dangerous as it was. A couple go-kart riders, one being female, died hitting the outside wall at 12.

Yeah I know the motorcycle additions, such a STUPID turn in the esses.Originally Posted by speedminded

OK, so you mean they added it where they put the new chicane in there? That makes sense.
yeah, the entire pit lane and the hill on the outside of turn 12 was dug up and trucked over to the lowest part of the esses starting at turn 4 (technically the entire area between 4 and 5 was raised).Originally Posted by simontibbett
