what are you doing on import Atlanta?
looks like a knockoff lotus.
i'd drive it, but wouldn't buy it.
Thats the european version of the Saturn Sky... Does it really weigh les then a miata???
Lotus helped make it so calling it a knockoff is off.Originally Posted by Tran

its a knock off.Originally Posted by EJ25RUN

I didn't say it was just inspired. Lotus was called upon like they were for the Nissan GTR to setup the cars suspension and assembled the cars as well. They were built at Lotus' own factory!Originally Posted by Tran
Produced by Lotus at their Hethel, Norfolk factory, the VX220 carried the Lotus internal model identification Lotus 116 and the code name Skipton for the 2.2N/A version and Tornado for the 2.0 L Turbo.
The chassis utilizes an aluminium chassis tub that weighs only 150 lb (68 kg). The car also features bodywork which is made entirely of GRP. The entire car weighs in at only 2,050 lb (930 kg), much lighter than most small sports cars.
The normally aspirated version used a Vauxhall Astra all aluminium alloy 2.2 L Z22SE engine giving 108 kW (147 PS; 145 bhp) in a car weighing 870 kg (1918 lb) — originally designed for GM by Lotus, it arguably gives the VX220 more mechanical Lotus content than the Elise. The Turbo model, introduced in 2003, used a GM designed cast iron block 2.0 L Z20LET engine, producing 147 kW (200 PS; 197 bhp) but weighing 930 kg (2050 lb).
The Elise S2 was designed by Lotus to have 16" front wheels and 17" rear wheels. GM decided to fit 17" wheels front and rear to the VX220 for aesthetic reasons, which reduced the handling performance of the car.
A removable hard-top can be fitted as a factory or aftermarket option, arguably providing better looks and aerodynamics.
seems like it would be fun to drive but the cars body lines really do kill it for me
weak civic
what kind of car is it?
AHAHAHAHAHA. No.Originally Posted by Nikola
The Saturn Sky is a rebadged Opel GT. This is an Opel Speedster.

ya'll said lotus helped with the GT-R but its still a nissan.
well, same situation here.
What's your exact argument here?Originally Posted by Tran
You're trying to say that because (at the time) GM had the money to tell Lotus to put their badges on a car they developed makes it have no Lotus in it?
Is that what you are saying?
i think it looks cool
In that case, is this car just a Dodge as well?

i'm saying its not a lotus.
i said it looked like a knock-off lotus.
and its an opel speedster. not a lotus.
thats what i'm saying.
So a badge is all that makes a car what it is?Originally Posted by Tran
so the GT-R is a lotus as well?Originally Posted by EJ25RUN

The GTR's link with Lotus is solely in the way Lotus helped set up the chassis even though Nissan has kept most of the details secret to make people think it is a 100% Nissan developed car.
So no. The GTR is not a Lotus.
but opel had help (just like nissan) building the car, and its considered a lotus. so a car that was helped by another company makes it that company's car with a different badge?Originally Posted by EJ25RUN
car is still an opel with lotus inspirations. cause it was a lotus, they would have called it a lotus.
No see Opel didn't exactly have help.Originally Posted by Tran
I'd call it help if this had happen....
Lotus came to G.M. in the design process and helped sort the car out on paper.
After that, it would make its way to Opel/Vauxhall assembly lines and be put together there just as any other GM would.
But that is not what had happened.
In this case, Lotus took money to develop a car like their successful Elise for another manufacturer. The Speedster is different to the Elise is many ways but it is still a Lotus made vehicle.
To get what i'm saying, listen to it like this.
Your way of seeing this.
I am Ford.
Chevy has the vette
I as Ford want a car like the Vette
I set out to make a car to compete against the vette.
I design, build, and sell it
My way of seeing this.
I am Ford
Chevy has the Vette
I as Ford want a car like the Vette
I goto Chevy with a paycheck
tell them to make me a car like the vette
then put Ford badges on it to be sold as a Ford.
with that said, it makes a lot more sense, since the way it was being said i was seeing it as, lotus just came in and built the car but wasn't taking credit for anything for it.Originally Posted by EJ25RUN
but i was also seeing it as lotus helped with some of the designs and helped with the production of the car, not so much as, lotus doing everything and being labeled as another vehicle.
Lotus did most of the work. G.M. provided the money and the badges.Originally Posted by Tran
