Yeah, from what I understand the Ramchargers started the straight axle/raised front in 1960 and by 1965 it started to die out. Mainly because of the better tire technology (cantilever slicks) that allowed the cars to hook up without modified front suspensions, also because trap speeds were getting faster and the raised front/squatting rear was undesirable from an aerodynamic standpoint.
It just strikes me as wierd that a '64 Fairlane would have A/FX (which means altered/factory experimental) on the window and not have straight axle or (from what I can tell) altered wheelbase. But I guess '64 might have been the transitional year when cantilever slicks first started showing up.
