    11/30/08 Zero Garage's own Lincoln locker, TE31 stripped to the metal. Zero's dual webers test-fitted, dual mikuni's ordered.

    Inspired by Hybrid93hatch--much props to his thread. This won't be nearly as detailed as his, but I promise to have a lot of pics.

    This will be the progress thread for my '86 sr5 hatch [4ac], '85 GTS coupe [4age], '76 2dr[3tc], and '76 auto wagon[2tc]

    So far, I've gotten stock corolla rims for her. You'll only see 3 on the car right now, but I ordered some 195-40-14 Falken Ziex Ze 512s from Edgeracing.com. Good price...

    I'm not a Toyota guru. Please, if you have any tips or suggestions, please post them. This thread's purpose is for learning, informing, and advising. I'm sure it will be very helpful for me and anyone else who might come across this.

    Updates will be added to the 1st post as they are posted.

    On with the pics:::

    These are the steelies that were on the car:

    Ah, yes. Looks a whole lot better with the corolla rims.

    I know, still have a steelie in the rear. --waiting for my tires to come in. At least it's not painted black.

    You might be able to see a little bit of surface rust on the passenger headlight. That will be addressed later on.

    Driver side of the front bumper is a little off. I'm not too concerned with it right now. It's not bad.

    You can already start to see where the previous owner had scraped off oxidation on the rear bumper. --will be addressed later.

    Grassroots Motorsports FTW!!

    Stock muffler:::ewwww.

    minor damage:::

    Yes, I love the headlights. I've never owned a car with flip-up headlights:::

    Stock 4A

    I haven't had a chance to really see what this was. Vacant wasp hive?

    uh huh:::high mileage is gangster.

    ...and maroon interior FTW!!

    More pics and updates to come:::

    Update 4/20

    Ooo...lookie lookie what came in yesterday :

    I got a lot to do today. --will update when I'm done.

    Thanks, again for your feedback and comments.

    This was today. Fuel for the day's progress.
    I'll upload more pics when I get home:::

    Don't know if you can tell the difference but I had the new tires mounted (before and after animated .gif):

    The still:

    Update 4/27

    Hmmm, decisions, decisions.

    I know some of you are like this, too. The rims have to be pleasing to the eye. I just couldn't do the Celica rims anymore.

    I did a little bit of shopping this week.

    Enkeis are 15 x 7 30+ offset
    SSRs 15 x 6 and 15 x 7

    I like the Enkeis so much that I'm tempted to roll with the pair on one side and the SSRs on the other.

    Update 5/01

    I finally got some pics with the SSRs on the 86.
    The tires are 195 60 15...blah:::

    I tried to keep as much natural lighting as possible.
    They are brightened just a bit 'cause the sun was setting.

    Almost flush...still looks good, though.

    Before and after (from Celica to SSR):

    so what are the initial plans anyways? You gonna rebuild the motor or just go or blow for a while

    Cosmetically for now, I am going to clean her up as much as possible. I have no major plans for a "real" paint job in the near future. Ever heard of the 50.00 paint job? I am very handy with the can. I'll let the pics speak for themselves. I don't find paint jobs practical for DDs. Making the car look newer and cleaner is first on the list of things to address.

    My reasoning for this? I had my hatch painted a year ago and it's just not worth it for a daily driver and everything you put the car through. Other people suck...don't know how to drive and don't give a flip about the paint on your car (use your imagination).

    Suspension will be next on the list. I can't stand cars at stock height. Throw me some ideas. I'm also searching on corolla sites for ideas. Extra Made is looking into some options for coilover setups for me as well...suspension components included.

    Motor-wise, I am thinking boosted 4agze. Who knows, if I stumble upon some extra $$$, it might be a bigger motor. But the A-series motors tend to keep the weight distribution at it's optimal.

    Feel free to throw me some ideas, guys.

    a kid here locally to me in WV is attempting to put one of the celica type S motors into an AE86 right now, Don't know how he's making it work being a FWD engine, but it should be pretty nice if he ever gets done, don't know anything about these cars or what would be involved with that swap but it would give a nice powerband in that little car I imagine.

    Nice AE86. I'm into Initial D and stuff so I love that car!

    One question though. This might be stupid, but whatever. In Initial D his 86 has a redline right at 7500 rpms I think. Yours redlines at 6000. Is that due to a different engine, like something they used in USDM?

    Love the pop-ups too. Both my cars have them. Have any problems with the pop-ups yet? I've had to rebuild the motors in my '88 Fiero, and I had to replace the headlight motor system in my '86 with a newer gen system. I love the sleek look they give though, so its worth the extra work.

    If I were you I'd convert it over to JDM (RHD and all that) and keep it looking stock. And possibly swap to a slightly more powerful, less worn out motor.

    I bet you get this question a lot too....you drift in that? lol

    Tinton,

    I'd say the 6k redline is due to the 4a. Maybe someone else can chime in.
    ...and no problems with the 'pop-ups' yet. I'll probably take some WD40 to quite a bit of things on the hachi, too.

    I'm with ya on all the rest except for the RHD. I think money could be better spent elsewhere. That's bling I can do without, unless I had bought the hachi with it already.

    No, sir. The car is too underpowered to drift...unless you really got some speed already. I hope to drift it in the future, though.

    Tinton and puregroove.

    The redline is at 6,000 because the car is an SR5, not a GTS. The engine is a 4AC angine rather than a 4AGE, which is the fuel injected engine. The 4AC has a carb instead.

    puregroove, one of the recommendations that I would make to you as another person who is building an AE86 is to get a new set of suspension bushings. The bushings are 20+ years old and it makes a big difference to freshen them up before further upgrading the suspension.
    What if there is no tomorrow? There wasn't one today.
