If you dont have access to a multi meter, there is always the tried-n-true method of you EARS to adjust the gain. I have set a "few" amps with only my ears, that have sounded pretty decent if I say so myself.

Others have been set with an RTA....but thats not a common tool in the average DIYer tool box.
