Default Anybody with a home surveillance system ?

I'm interested in installing a camera or two at the house but I have no idea where to look. Also I'm kind of on a budget I'd like not to spend more than $500 for the whole setup.

I'd like a camera and recording setup that can film and save the data on some sort of digital hard drive.

Anybody has some experience with this ?

I have experience in all phases all low voltage wiring including surveillance, stereo, sorround sound, phone, cable, security, intercoms, etc...
The best package deals I can get are 4 cameras with a black and white tv for $400 and you can hook it up to a vcr or you can get 4 cameras with a dvr which records everything for $1100 those prices are for parts only, does not include labor. Labor for 4 cameras hooked up to either the tv or dvr will be around $150-$250 all wires hid, price depends on where you want it and how hard it will be to hide all the wires. You can pm me if you want more info.

I just found a mini dvr recorder that still has all the same functions as a full size but is cheaper and has a built in memory and records time and date and everything as well.
The price for the dvr is 350 and the colored cameras are 175 each. It all depends on what kind of camera you are wanting, I also have hidden cameras such as teddy bears, sprinkler head, sunglasses, buttons, plants, alarm clocks, smoke detectors.

It's for outdoor surveillance. Basically the driveway and maybe another ove taping the backyard. I can hook this stuff up myself. If you guyz could point me to an online store or ebay auction I would apreciate it.

Just pick up a DVR card for your computer, they typically come with software. look for a card thats 30fps or more. then just find cameras to plug in, they come with different lenses etc so you need to pick them specifically for where youre putting them, also you may need to buy weatherproof housing. ive built a couple dvr systems for restaurants.
