I don't think that you could have a "white" history month because there are SOOOOO many differen't white cultures that span over Hundreds and thousands of years. Which is impossible to fit into one month. In Contrast, black history month only focuses on the relatively short period of time from the late 1800's untill now. Also, it only focuses on Blacks in America, not anywhere else in the world.

Personally I don't really care what a month is called, but the problem with black history month or any race history month is that it gives special attention to a single race which in itself is racism.

When I was in school I was taught about contributions from people of all races throughout history all year long, yet for that one month we had to focus on one race. Yes, thats racism at work, and it is contributing to keeping racism alive just as much as any other race issue.

I agree with the man in QD's post 110%. If you think you deserve special treatment because something that happened to people that share your race over 140 years ago, then you need to grow up. Hell, even 50 years ago.

Exactly I just don't understand some things. Way back in the 8th grade Ill never forget that year. All we learned is Black History and he decided to ask me questions all about the KKK when I transferred because I came from Alabama.. I swear.

I agree with you on that. Fuck special treatment/ repreations or whatever. But does it really bother people that much that there is a black history month? Oh well get over it. Does it interfere with you living a normal life? Read some of the jokes in this thread. Yeah they are all in fun, but its still offensive and it hurts. Like i said in my other post, I'm over slavery, but I still feel that racism is present to this day.

EX. My family owns a funeral home. There is a cemetery that is split into sections; one for blacks, and one for whites, and its been this way since the 1800's. NO one has tried to change it. Well one day last year me and my grandfather are prepping a site near the back right corner of the yard (where there are graves from as far back as th 1950's) when a worker from the other side comes up to us and says that we have been burying nigger bodies on his side of the cemetery, and he wants them out. And that us "Stupid niggers" need to learn how to read. Basically we told him to stfu, cuz we weren't looking for problems.

I don't know If any of you have ever been called a racial slur, or looked down upon because of your color, but that is the worst feeling in the world. And i wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Ok lets be realistic here. Why is most of America's history about white people. Maybe because white people where the first people here and they actually decided to record their history. I really wish that more african americans had written documents ( I only know of a few like Fredrick Douglas's autobiography). Not only do I wish their were more African American documents but also American Indian documents. The problem is that the literature is just not there. Besides, all that if you have ever tried to apply for a job or apply for college you realize that our government and society has tried so hard to "fix" racism that they practice what is essentially reverse racism against white males especially. You dont see anyone saying lets have equal number of whites in the NBA. You know why? Because for the most part (excluding Nash) white people are not that good. (I know ive played for years and I will probably never dunk)

I hate the term reverse racism. Reverse racism = acceptance. Racism is racism, whether white against black or black against white. That's all I wanted to say. I was just reading this thread and saw the term which always irks me when I read it.

reverse racism=not acceptance. its over acceptance based on race, which is wrong.

aka a classroom at say georgia tech, 30 seats. 25 for whomever, 5 specifically for black people, just because they are black and if the class is 100% not black then it must be racism right? so we must add diversity so black people dont cry racism...so, 25 random highly qualified people make the class. 5 of the highest qualified black people get 5 seats, but there are still 5 other random people who out-qualify some or all of the reserved seats but are rejected based upon their non=black skin color. that is racism/reverse racism.

that happens in work environments, class environments, probably other things i cant think of off the top of my head..etc.

That is still just plain ol racism. Not REVERSE RACISM! I fully believe that whomever is qualified for a job/position/school slot should get it. I think that affirmative action is racist. Discrimination based upon race (black, white, etc.) is RACISM, it makes no difference if the person being discriminated against is black, white, etc.

they could be asian or mexican or whatever. my point was that people feel obligated to act nicer towards them or give them more oppurtunity based on race. that is equally wrong. whatever you wish to call it.

I find it humorous how small groups african americans in my high school complained about how they deserved something for the suffering their ancestors went through when the reparations was a big current event news wise. Fuck they have affirmitive action but it looks like all they really care about is a pay out or getting something for doing nothing/someone else's doing. Mind you I have some very cool black friends and I'm not generalizing at all but when college apps come around you dont see white guys asking for reparations because of affirmative action and shit like that. Guess it's just kinda ironic from my perspective.
