    this might be stupid question but how do you double clutch

    From what I've picked up. It's basically revving the engine to match up with the transmission. That way it doesn't "jump" when you depress the clutch.. I could be 100% wrong on this, I tried this one time and it seemed to be just alot of trouble... Supposedly it's alot easier on the transmission.

    i dnt know but i think its just when u let off the clutch pedal between gears /neutral just like u were in a gear. i have to do this bc my 3rd ad 5th gear synchros are done so it keeps my gears from grinding. I think it slow the internals in the tranny dwn taking the wrk off the synchros.

    The Fast and The Furious has fucked the world. Here's the basic concept:
    step 1: clutch in, pull out of gear
    step 2: release clutch
    step 3: push clutch back in, and shift into the respective next year
    step 4: release clutch

    And jsut for anybody who doesn't know any better, double clutching is generally used for old and worn trannys with bad synchros. It is completely pointless for racing or normal driving and is only needed when your synchros are very worn or non existent. "Granny shifting" is the correct way to shift unless the above applies.

    HELL YEAH!! I was right. I just tried that shit out and it worked. Im a master, but i knew that already. i swear nobody ever told me that, i thought that would be my version of double clutching bc i didnt know what it really was. for me.

    i know that some big trucks (ie. older 18 wheelers etc) dont have syncros so they had to double clutch. this isnt a 'cool racing trick' its a term that sounded 'good' in that movie. not for many of us and def not if you are racing.

    i do that all the time... i think the term ive heard is "rev matching"

    YEAH, it basically smoothens the transition between shifts.

    when i started i didnt stop,

    it irritated me to have my car jump downshifting so i started doing it and i

    know my drivetrain is happier for it.

    double clutchig is what smoothlude said, rev matching is when you downshift and you rev the gas so the car doesn't jerk. you can heel/toe, heel/toe+ double clutch, all variants of rev matching... in some race cars where there is no synchro drivers double clutch/heel toe... so there's actually a place for double clutch in racing, just depends what kind of race car.

    no, don't see how it could make the clutch wear out faster... when I drive around town it's second nature for me to rev match when I down shift, it makes things alot smoother to give the gas a lil blip when you down shift... when I drive aggressively I heel toe... so pretty much I rev match down shift all the time.

    rev matching will make the clutch last longer in general. when you let the engine revs drop then just release the clutch it has to slip/drag against the slow moving flywheel. if you rev match the clutch engages and slows with the engine/tranny at the same time.

    all semi trucks you have to double clutch if you use the clutch. or you can just float the gears which is where you dont use the clutch at all. you can float in any car with a manual tranny. i do it in mine alot. some semi trucks are starting to use a automatic style tranny. you still have a clutch pedal but only use it when you stop. the computer engages the clutch when it shifts for you. if only cars had this.
