Don't bother with Carfax, use AutoCheck. It is much better.
Just fly out and drive the car back.

Anyway, as for shipping vs driving it back; I had considered driving it.
But my time is valuable and additionally I could break down since it has a built motor - and then I'd still end up having to ship it back.
Gas + lodging is still as much if not more than simply shipping.
