I've had the ability to own both of them and really depends on what you want to do with the car. Just posting up with vague information isn't going to help us tell you which one to go with which ultimately, you should make the final decision and not based on what others tell you to get.

Start off by doing this, call your insurance company and see how much the premium is for each and go from there.

I would say get an Evo if you can afford to mod and fix it when it breaks (and it will break).

He is 20. Insurance isn't gonna be cheap for either.

Do your research and decide which will suit you better. Personally, I would say the EVO simply because I have a son.

If you do decide to buy an EVO, find one that is as close to stock as possible and I'm not meaning one that was once modified and returned to stock. There are pro's and cons to each. You'll need to do some footwork youself and actually do some research on both cars.

S2k is a pretty awesome car at first. Thrill of a drive, handles like a dream... engine makes you forget you even have a radio... and its convertible... but after a few months, atleast for me... you kinda feel like youre driving a toy. That and driving with bent knees on long trips is a pain in the ass. So for that reason alone, i'll take the roomy evo.

So you're asking us to decide if you should buy a 2-door RWD convertible or a 4-door AWD sedan? Both are great cars, but other than being peppy and foreign, they are completely different. I think you should ask yourself what you want out of the car.

    10k rpm? Lol. The AP1's ('00-03) redline at 9k and the AP2 ('04-'08) redline at 8200.

lol brave statement there, champ. with the evo he has the power of turbo, boost control if he wants it, etc...

but i have to agree. i-vtec is one of the more intoxicating feelings as it runs through the car.

Hahaha...wrong. Like I've mentioned before, I've owned BOTH and no way would a stock S2K outrun a stock Evo.

Agreed. I can see an S2K hang with an Evo in the corners, but Evos are definitely faster in a straight line stock for stock.

Having autocrossed an Evo and been in close contact with multiple people that have autocrossed S2Ks, I know that stock Evos tend to push in corners while S2Ks can be pretty twitchy and snap-spin. I have also heard complaints from S2K drivers about hitting VTEC in the middle of a turn and the instant addition of power can unsettle the car and make it spin. Granted, an Evo can build boost in mid-turn under acceleration, but being AWD makes it more predictable. If you plan to mod, Evo all the way. The 4G63 has been around for a loooong time and that means power adders are pretty cheap, well tested, and there are a lot of good tuners to choose from.

However, it is pretty pricy to insure an Evo since they are notorious for flipping into lakes in the wrong conditions.

lol i guess the guys at steele cant drive, im talking turbo to turbo lol, but its all good. i do bet that if you were to put 10k in a f20 or f22 and a 4g63 the s2k will come out on top IMO....

You are very very very wrong. Also, you can't compare modded cars without knowing anything about them. The 4G63 has been around for YEARS, giving many tuners tons of time to perfect and manufacture parts to make big power. In addition, it is much easier and safer to build power on turbo motors than NA motors converted to turbo. There are multiple 1000+WHP Evos, but I can't think of any F20 S2000s making that power.

Last time I checked, 880HP was 120 less than 1000. You don't see 1000HP S2000s running at all.

Also, Wikipedia lists the curb weight for an S2000 at roughly 2800 pounds and an Evo 8 at 2900-3100, which isn't that huge of a difference. If you put the same money into either car, the Evo will be faster. It is a fact.

880hp was the highest iv seen in a s2k and its was blowing supras out of the water along with vettes stangs and cycles.... like you would know which would be faster lol, do you have 10k to put in one and find out lol. its not a fact, its just what u think will be the out come. but this aint about our ranting lol, the guy wanted our opinion and we gave it to him so thats the end of it....

I do know. It is much easier and safer to make power on an engine made for forced induction than on one that wasn't, especially if one (the 4G63) has been around longer for more experimentation by tuners.

This isn't an opinion issue. It is a fact that you can make much more power safely on a 4G engine than you can on an F20C with the same amount of money.

It is an opinion issue on what someone believes which car is better. I consider the S2000 a great car, but I KNOW that you can make more power with an Evo.

Are you kidding? You have to add a ton of supporting mods to a F20C to boost it at all (not counting the turbo kit itself), when you can gain tons of power with a stock engine and stock ECU Evo. You are lying to yourself and the OP of this thread.

its funny,,, most of all hondas make huge power on stock bottom ends lol, i see your point that the evo is already boosted but aside frome that the money u save by not buying one, you can buy the turbo kit, and no one can be lying to there self in this matter its all a OP. just know that if your OP mattered some one would be defending the so called fact u are stateing. i dont need someone to tell me my OP stinks because its mine lol, your feeling just get hurt way to easy home fry.

This "argument" started after midnight, so I'm not surprised that others haven't chimed in yet. I could just as easily say that if your OP mattered, someone would be defending the so-called fact you are stating. I will spell my retort better, though. My feelings aren't hurt at all. I just see through your bias. Mod for mod, the Evo will make more power. Period.

For less than $10K, you can make more power on a Evo than a S2K. The Evo is faster, end of story.

AMS GT42R kit with AEM Series 2 EMS is under $10K, and can make 800whp.

Don't be too happy - the S2K is much better looking, and the interior is 10,000x better.
