When building a car, whats more important, a good chassis or the motor in the chassis?

I think the build should be based around a good chassis.

Agreed, a motor can be easily modified or swapped
IA Rules doesn't allow these images in sigs

The motor is worthless without a good chassis. I for one like a strong chassis that isn't prone to bad flex...like a Honda Civic. Alot of people think a 3000lb car is heavy. In reality it is about average. Look at the options on the vehicle that determine its weight. Of course a car with leather seats, lots of room, and more materials used for a comfortable or luxurious ride will be heavy. Take a 350Z for example. It may be "heavy" but its not do to its comforts. The chassis was built to be more rigid, therefore built with better material that just so happens to be heavier. You should always back your power up with a strong rigid chassis for your safety.

Who cares how powerful your motor is if it can't be put to the ground? Build a solid chassis that can handle what's thrown at it, then bump up the power as needed/wanted. I'd rather have a momentum based car than a scary straight line deathtrap. (Unless I was just "borrowing" the scary straight line deathtrap )

A balance. Neither is more important. What good is 700whp in a stock Miata chassis? On the contrary, what good is a stock Miata motor in a well-built chassis?

I come from the land of 1000+hp motors in old chevrolets with only subframe connectors, built rear ends, and tint... so, who knows. LOL

The chassis is the most important imo. You can build a minivan to have more power then a lamborghini but you cant make a minivan handle like one.

What good is either if you don't know how to use them? Balance is key.
