They are stronger and less likely to break. You also have to use open end lugs...you cant use close end.

i believe a lot of tracks make you have extended studs. but this is just what i have heard. i dont know if there is any truth to it. ive never had this problem at sdr

Well drag cars have them for the following reason: If your making a pass down the track and a wheel comes off it helps the wheel seperate from the car, and not get stuck up under the fender causing a greater accident. If the wheel falls off the car will just stop,if the wheel aint under the car. But if the will stays under the car it can cause you too loose worse control and flip the car also..

I have aftermarket hubs and brakes, they came that way. For pit stops, it makes it easier to line up the wheels in a hurry. If you were to cross-thread it, it's far enough out ont he stud to not affect it. It also allows the nut to get a running start with an impact wrench.
