    Default Carbon fiber worth it?

You think it would be worth it to spend 3 grand to get carbon fiber hood, doors, and rear hatch? It is not for looks, cause I would definitely paint it, but for lightening up the Talon. Would It really make a real difference?

it would make a little bit of a difference, but with the money you spend on all that could get you some really good performance upgrades that would surpass the times you would get for the weight loss.

i'd spend the money on the motor setup. i see that being a bigger benifit over anything else.

My motor is complete. I could go bigger turbo but I wanna keep it streetable, and I have to pass emissions. I didn't think I would notice enough difference for that kind of money.

Sure it would help, but honestly, the money to advantage ratio is low. I wouldn't spend 3k on Carbon Stuff unless it's a for real racing car. Numerous carbon fiber bodypanels on a street car is a waste of money in my opinion. 3 grand can do a whole lot more for you.

It's a DSM, you are going to need that 3k soon for mechanical issues anyway, sock it away and let some interest build up.

Yeah, I had already pretty much talked myself out of it anyways. I just wanted to get some input from some others who may or may not have experience with CF parts.

I don't really know what the OEM parts weigh. I do know the CF doors weigh 19 lbs, can't remember what the hood and hatch weigh but they are really light. I do know it will save a pretty good amount, not just like 50 lbs but more like probably 100 lbs or maybe a bit more.

Yeah the CF is probably one of the last mods I would do if I were in your shoes. For me I would never buy CF for a street car (if it is a street car) unless it was for looks, plus the hoods on the cars I have driven have been aluminum and fiberglass lol.

I once heard from someone that 100 pounds in weight savings ROUGHLY translates to about a .10 quicker in the quarter mile??

Does anyone know how true this is?

That's roughly what the 1/4 mile estimators say if you add or subtract 100 lbs.

pretty much. the weight taken off wouldn't really benifit unless its al all out race car. for a street car? its kinda stupid.

you said the motor was built already? i'm sure there is a lot more that can be done. with 3k you can see it up to 450+hp or more. but i wouldn't go that far for a street car though. maybe around 400 would be enough but thats the highest i personally would go.

Thats pretty much where I'm around. Like I said I don't wanna go much more extreme on power to keep it driveable and emissions legal.

if that is the case, i'd straight bank that money and let it sit and build interest.

LOL I know. I was just debating it cause I am about to get the car painted and wanted to make sure it was ready so I didn't have to take it to paint twice. I've decided to not go with the CF and do other things.

i'd go with some stuff to make the ride more comfortable. seats, suspension or whatever, you know?

carbon doors are uber light they fly open sooo hard when the wind blows.. good thing is they probably wont dent the car next to you.. but they will eff up your door..
