    Default NOOB please help

    I have a SOHC ZC VTEC motor in my 93 eg coupe.

    Im planning on getting a vitara piston and eagle h beam rod pacakge with rod bearings and all that good stuff. on ebay for $600
    Also plan on adding rc 450 injectors.
    After that i plan on getting an ebay turbo kit and replace the manifold, boost controller, and bov with something of better quality.

    Also gonna take to mainstream and get tunned by Scotty? always hear people say good things about him
    Will this hold 15psi?

    600 is way to much for the piston rod combo. the good vitaras made by nippoin racing in japan are about 140 per set and eagle rods are right at 300.00 with arps on ebay. they even have a package deal for 447.00 i think.

    and yeah that pistom rod combo will hold 15psi and then some dont forget head studs head gasket and good bearings. good luck and yeah scotty is the man for tuning

    If your going with vitari pistons, It would be best to get the FJ custom i-beam rods, they put the pistons up further in the deck, the piston/rod combo is only $425 from FJdistributors.com . Also , get a better turbo then the ebay crap and a quality wastegate and blow off valve.

    There is nothing wrong with a ebay MBC it is nothing more then a valve that controls vacuum.

    Less vac more psi more vac less psi.

    Run a gated turbo it is the way to go.

    Totally disagree...get an externally wastegate, not an internally gated turbo. I have seen over 40 hp gains just from swapping to an external gate.

    As for the pistons, I would personally not put a set of cast pistons in a forced induction engine. Get some good quality 2618 forged slugs. Cast pistons are just asking for issues in my opinion. Do it right if you are going through the time and expense. It's only a couple hundred more for forged.

    just to let you know,vitaras can hold well over 400whp with eagle rods and arps. if i was building a race car then i would go forged.for a daily/weekend toy vitaras are great.

    you will make more than that with those rods and pistons if you choose to.i made 200whp with a stock block zc and 7 or 8psi i forget maybe 8 haha.

    Lol, vitara pistons have been proven over and over again to hold well over 400hp

    i like how everyone is talking about all this forged or cast , gated or external wastegate and i have no fucking clue. But im researching and catching on.
    Why cant there just be a easy way to go faster

    its gets easier,just ask questions and do some reading. i remeber when i first go into hondas i had a crx with a zc swap, homemadeturbo.com inspired me to do a junkyard kit with a fmu and it worked great.hehehe ahh the old days....

    and if you go the ebay turbo kit route people say rebuild the turbo before using,personally i never had any major issues with an ebay turbo kit only a small crack in the manifold that i welded back real quick. and i always had a back up turbo since they are so cheap.

    Youre headin in the right direction
    Dont forget about the fuel pump. The walbro 255lph is a favorite of many boosted honda owners.
    Go for a castiron mani. they dont look as pretty as the shiny stainless steel ones, but theyll actually last. Get a quality wastegate. And you can find ebay mbc's for cheap, and I usually hear good things about them, but just to be safe and for piece of mind, run a namebrand boost controller. Turboxs and hallman are great and affordable mbc's.
    And unless youve just come across a really good deal on the rc injectors, you can usually find dsm 450's for a good bit less.

    And yes, scotty is the man at tuning hondas. hands down.

    +1 on the hallman. There are some things I don't mind getting from Ebay, turbo is not one of them. I guess I am used to building a block with a little different theory. I mean seriously...and extra couple hundred and you get pistons that can hold 700hp. To me it is a no brainer. I build for OVER what I plan to make on a car, not to the edge. That being said, if all you are shooting for is 200 hp I am sure you will be fine...rods that can hold 600+ with pistons that can hold 400. Course for a couple hundred more you could get pistons that could hold the same as the rods....Then if you ever decide you want more, you are there!

    yeah man and i wouldnt ever go over 250-300 i just want a little get up but nothing that would not be practical to drive everyday.

    I just finished a kit not too long ago on a 390 hp car and it is daily driven with no issues. Working on finishing one now that we expect 500's and will also be daily driven Oh and both are 4 cylinders.

    hey man its cool and yeah i said screw the budget i want it done right. but then i though hey for a couple grand why not just throw in an h22 and get 200hp with out the hassel of a turbo.

    or spend half of what you would spend on a h22 swap and boost your stock zc and make 200whp like i did with mine i spent 425.00 on my kit, total on my car i spent 1500.00 on everything, zc motor,si trans,turbo kit,ecu,tuning,450cc's,radiator and fans and the car haha. the car was free haha and yeah the stock motor can handel that power its all in the tune

    ^ true info..... you can do a budget turbo kit and have pretty good performance numbers.

    you can also do a re-ring if your motor isnt too beat up. basically oem rebuild. the kits are pretty reasonable on ebay. but when you start buyin alot of performance crap the money starts to add up way quick.

    for instance on my build....

    i started with a 750 dollor swap..... was missing starter and linkage....

    750 swap
    240 factory oem mounts
    44 a/c compressor tensioner and puley from del sol
    375 obx lsd
    97 stage 1 clutch
    20 ls shifter
    44 acl main
    40 acl type r rod bearings
    40 full engine gasket set
    17 clutch slave cylinder
    50 timing belt kit
    100 starter and shift linkage
    250 gsr pistons and rods and crank ( uber steal )
    125 head studs
    75 integra ecu
    20 assorted bolts
    120 oil, coolant, assembelly lube, thread lock and shit like that.


    that alone was 2407

    and im sure im missing stuff.

    it adds up wayyyyy quick and i consider my build *budget*

    If you just want 200-250whp then don't worry about building the motor. You can make that on stock d series motors with good turbo kit and good tune. I have run 15psi on a GT28R on my stock Z6 and all I did was headstuds. Scotty runs 15-16psi on a GT25R on his Y7 and it is COMPLETELY stock. He has been boosted for over 4yrs with no problems.

    I don't personally like the vitara's because of the compression and even with the FJ rods it is still too low for my likings. However, they are good for the price and have shown to hold some decent power. If you can afford it then yes do forged but I have also seen forged pistons break at 300whp. It's all in how the car is tuned and how it is treated.

    O and 450cc injectors will be limited to about 280-300whp. I would go ahead and get at least a 550cc inj.

    that's why he said all in the tune. i've seen where people put $$ into an engine and then don't get it tuned pop pistons a lot at low boost. also too tight assembly/not checking piston to wall clearances.

    I tune Mitsubishis and Subarus and I guess after seeing some of the "tunes" people have come in with I can believe it. There are some shady folks out there claiming that they can tune cars.
