Default 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo Opinions NEEDED!!!!

so im about to go look at a 944 turbo tomorrow. im getting alot of mixed signals about this car. some friends say stay the F away and some say go for it. just wanted a few more opinions.

here's a pic of it for reference. body is pretty clean. owner says it doesn't smoke at all, turbo is good, no issues known.

your best bet is to start saving right after you get it so once the motor goes you can put in a LS1.

Turbo's are the best by far. Lighter, better looking, and way better suspension

My friend had one a long time ago. His went in the shop a lot and cost a lot in repairs every year. The second part probably won't matter to you since you're a shop. A few years later I was looking at getting one, but my same friend talked me out of it as he felt based on his experience with the one he owned that it was a money pit. I will say this though, even though those cars are pretty old now, they still look great to me. I remember that the turbo model was a lot of fun to drive as well. The LS1 swap that the other guy said sounds like a great idea to me for that car though. Good luck and keep us posted if you get it.

If you just asked what Pelican Parts is DO NOT EVER BUY A PORSCHE, thank you.

I wouldn't get a 944 turbo without a big wad of backup money, you can keep a 911 running cheaper then a 944 turbo.

I don't understand these cars unless your an absolute Porsche fanatic. For example, E36 M3's outpreform them with minor upgrades and cost 1/100th as much to upkeep. Pointless cars, rediculous to upkeep (unless your turning your own wrenches) and nothing special IMO. Personally i'd rather have a built N/A 944 so I wouldn't shit my pants after every track day, but that's just me. Anyhow, if your looking for straight line power LS1 is a good way to go but, 350whp can be had out of an 944 quite easily compared to a drivetrain/chevy swap

Even turning your own wrenches these cost a LOT in parts alone.

As for do I know everything about every car made...why do you say that? I've owned a Porsche (not the one in question), and have been around Porsches in general since I was like seven, sorry for giving my input.
