I got some washers that fit perfectly around the stud and are very wide (almost touch each other at the edges). I run about 2mm (1 washer) to reduce the full-lock scrubbing from my tires. No problems here, but I also don't drive hard on them. When I do my autoXing/track days, I run different wheels and no spacers. I've known a few people who use them like this (other people who actually know cars) and none of them report any problems.
