    Default Ghetto wheel spacing.

If you used washers on wheel studs could that work as wheel spacers? Or is that a horrible idea?

no, that would be a horrible idea.

dont even need to explain why.

I'd only do that to measure how thick you'd want to go when you do buy spacers.

    lol, he's right. Bad Idea.

The wheels will begin to wobble after awhile, and your studs will break off, causing your wheel to come off the car...

I regret to say this, but I actually had a car w/ washers as wheel spacers on it once . Mind you I didnt put them on, I bought the car used and when i replaced my brakes i noticed.

They were only mayybe 5mm so you couldnt see them with the wheel on.

anyway, speaking from experience.. I dont doubt its dangerous... but I drove on them for prolly 7500 miles before I did my brakes and removed them.

(for reference the vehicle was an SRT4)

I got some washers that fit perfectly around the stud and are very wide (almost touch each other at the edges). I run about 2mm (1 washer) to reduce the full-lock scrubbing from my tires. No problems here, but I also don't drive hard on them. When I do my autoXing/track days, I run different wheels and no spacers. I've known a few people who use them like this (other people who actually know cars) and none of them report any problems.

I don't know how other cars are with spacers, but with 240's if you go with more than a 5mm spacer up front, you will need longer studs.

your wheel needs to sit flush against the hub, and if you if you are going to space it, use real spacers that way the wheel has good contact between it and the hub. putting washers on the studs just decreases the amount of thread your lugnuts have on the studs, so definately not good either way.

    LOL @ this bandwagon here.

Please humphries, enlighten us why you think this is bad.

If this was such a bad idea, why would they even sell "wheel stud washers?"

I've heard of people using these for years with no problems whatsoever. Even Doppler up there has had no problems with them.

if you get the washers to fit snug around the stud and are wide and don't go over 5mm then you are good.

but really 5mm is not going to do any thing unless you need shock or brake clearance either way you will need longer wheel studs and spacers or bolt on spacers

Ballerness is like butter you just can't blob it in one place you got to spread that shit around
