Most of the time it's used for lubricating oil, not motor oil but the United States Postal Service and National Park Service use re-refined oil in their vehicle fleets.
The oil can be burned in boilers for heat and used to generate electricity, supposedly 2 gallons of motor oil can be used to generate enough electricity to power the average house for 24 hours...who knew!
