    Default d series turbo build

so like the title says, im dong a d16z6 turbo build....

this si the setup i want but i have a few ?'s:

    vitara pistons
    h beam rods
    turbo cam
    t3/t4 60 trim
    rc 550cc's
    s2 Im
    holley fuel rail
    FPR
    cx tranny
    hondata s300

    now for my questions:

    1. would the stock rods hold ~350whp? if not, what are good rods to put in a d16 turbo build without breaking the bank?

    2. would i need to upgrade any other internals?

    3. what kind of max power can expect off this setup?

    d-series.org for all your questions

no the stock rods wont handle it. Id say the low 300s-hp wise with out a little headwork.

If you're running Vitaras I'd use this combo. I've heard a lot of good things about his rods.

put bigger injectors, upgrade clutch, and use the longer I-beam rods with the vitaras ... and boost the hell out of it.

    this setup can hit 400whp+

try adding more mpg...lol my car got 30+. DO NOT use any other rod other then the FJT's i assure you it will suck. The vitara's are known for yielding very low compression, which hurts peak power, spool time and a number of other things which is WHY FJT RODS was created to eliminate it.

also if you need any answers to question about your build pm me. I know more about the vitara setups then most anyone on this board if not anyone. Ive had 3 already, working on another with 450-500whp.

    vitara pistons- good choice
h beam rods- good rods BUT you have to notch WAYY more then the FJT'S and the will yield around a 8:1 cp instead of 9:1.
turbo cam- the zex 59300 has been proven to be the best budget cam and it runs 150-200 BUT the new BISI 2.4 turbo cam kicks its ass but also comes with a 500 dollar price tag.
t3/t4 60 trim- perfect turbo for a d series build good for easily high 400's
rc 550cc's- unlike b series d series like to use alot of fuel and not make as much power. Id run 750's if not 880's
s2 Im- waste of money save a good chunk of change and get you a blox IM and ITR or H22 throttle body.
holley fuel rail-not a must but would help the supporting mods
    FPR-kinda the same
cx tranny- d series already have suck gears and a cx tranny would kill you, run a SI/EX/ or ZC trans ONLY!
hondata s300- GREAT EMS but if your on a budget go with ectune crome gold or find a used s200

    1. would the stock rods hold ~350whp? if not, what are good rods to put in a d16 turbo build without breaking the bank? Stock rods start to fail and get weak around 250ishwhp with the named setup above you should expect too spend about 2-3k depending on your connection and how much labor you do.

    2. would i need to upgrade any other internals? only if you wanna rev above 7800.

    3. what kind of max power can expect off this setup?400-480whp and mid 11's to low 10's depending on the chassis its in and the power you do make.

summed it up pretty well. i will reiterate what he said about the vitara and rod choice. i've tuned many vitara setups and no-one ever believes how low they make the compression unless you use the specially made rods.

Sctty I am so impressed with you. Been on the board for some years and also Import Lounge and see how you have taking over the turbo d scene. Props to you.

I am kinda struggling because I have been reading up on the vitara/d build for the past 3-4 years. Do the FJT rods require notching, and who around here could I trust for the machine work.

Sctty, what is your set-up now and how many tuning hrs.(best estimate) does it take on a new set-up. I go back and forth between a H22 EJ and a turbo d.

you will need to notch the block...any rod besides the pencil thin stock d-series rod needs extra clearance. 2-3 hrs to tune. i can't help you decide between d-series or h22...i'm a little biased and like to try and keep it simple and as inexpensive as possible for my goals. my original intent was to boost the d, blow it up and learn from it, then drop a b-series in...6+ years later and the d-series is still going. i decided years ago i would go ahead and just drop a built d-series in. i've had everything for over 3 years and the motor has been built for almost a year now waiting to go in...i just haven't had much incentive to pull the original out yet. i guess if it finally blows that will motivate me to do it.
